Requirements
  • Undergraduate I candidates must be at the first-year or sophomore level and understand the relevant discipline and theories; work experience is not required.
  • Undergraduate III candidates must be at the senior level and have experience with 100% of the task requirements, with the ability to accomplish 90% of the work independently.
  • Coursework is required in the discipline specified by the task-order Statement of Work.
  • Majoring in Marine Biology, Biology, Engineering, Environmental Science, and/or Chemistry.
  • The employee must obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance.
  • Only United States citizens may qualify.
  • The candidate must reside in California and live within a commutable distance from SDSU at the time of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Provide technical and analytical support for evaluating PFAS compounds against biological endpoints.
  • Mobilize and prepare equipment for upcoming field and laboratory testing.
  • Assist with standardized toxicity and bioaccumulation testing.
  • Process collected samples and data.
  • Perform data analysis using Microsoft Excel and appropriate statistical software.
  • Maintain laboratory facilities, including washing glassware and calibrating and maintaining water-quality meters and the seawater system.
  • Maintain test organisms and cultures.
  • Conduct relevant literature searches pertaining to the studies.
  • Participate in report preparation.
Desired Qualifications
  • Coursework in marine biology, statistics, chemistry, environmental science, electrical engineering, and/or computer engineering.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and common statistical software.
  • Interest in or experience with designing environmental sampling equipment.
  • Availability to work 20 hours per week.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and good communication skills.
