- Certification or eligibility for certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Sonography, or Cardiovascular Credentialing International.
- All sonographers must obtain certification within twenty-four months of eligibility or cross-training.
- Certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or obtaining it within 90 days of employment.
- Compliance with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, or Cardiovascular Credentialing International continuing-education requirements appropriate to the practice.
- Operate ultrasound scanning equipment to produce records of designated portions of the human anatomy of adult and geriatric patients.
- Graduation from an accredited school of Ultrasound Technology.
- For cardiology specialty areas, registration as a Cardiovascular Technologist and two years of cardiac-related experience.
- For vascular specialty areas, registration as a Vascular Technologist and two years of vascular-related experience.
- For OB/GYN specialty areas, registration as an OB/GYN Technologist and at least two years of OB/GYN-related experience.
