  • Air Brake Certification is required.
  • A Department of Transportation Medical Card is required.
  • Section 609 HVAC certification is required for HVAC service.
  • A valid driver's license and insurable driving record are required.
  • Ability to attend and successfully complete HVAC, electrical, and Department of Transportation training is required.
  • Ability to obtain required ASE, Department of Transportation, and other certifications is required.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, nights, and on-call schedules as needed is required.
  • Reliable transportation and a phone are required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English is required, as applicable.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with team members and deliver excellent customer service is required.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and perform standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and repetitive motions throughout the workday is required.
  • Ability to work in shop and roadside environments under varying conditions is required.
  • Physical attendance at the primary work location is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform mechanical repairs in a timely and professional manner.
  • Perform preventive maintenance services, tire services, and emergency road service calls.
  • Conduct Department of Transportation inspections and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Perform service calls, including night and on-call assignments as required.
  • Use J-Pro, FleetCross, and original equipment manufacturer software to diagnose and repair vehicle systems.
  • Complete work orders accurately, documenting labor performed, parts used, and required warranty information.
  • Perform intermediate to advanced engine repairs, including diagnostics, cooling system components, fuel system components, turbos, oil systems, and related accessories.
  • Perform emissions system diagnostics and repairs, including diesel particulate filters, exhaust gas recirculation systems, sensors, and regeneration procedures.
  • Perform intermediate to advanced drivetrain repairs, including clutches, differentials, power take-offs, axle assemblies, transmissions, and driveline components.
  • Perform wheel-end repairs, including bearings, seals, hubs, and spindle evaluation.
  • Conduct air system and air brake diagnostics and repairs, including anti-lock braking systems, compressors, valves, and sensors.
  • Perform advanced steering and suspension repairs, including gearboxes, kingpins, springs, shackles, hangers, tie rods, torsion arms, and fifth wheels.
  • Perform electrical system diagnostics and repairs, including voltage drop testing, parasitic draw testing, starters, alternators, and engine-related sensors.
  • Perform heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning diagnostics and repairs, including recovery, evacuation, recharge, compressors, driers, expansion devices, evaporators, condensers, and HVAC controls.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop, tools, and equipment.
  • Ensure tools, jacks, and service vehicles are maintained in safe working condition.
  • Stay current with learning management system training requirements and complete Occupational Safety and Health Administration skills demonstrations as required.
  • Provide friendly, professional, and competent customer service.
  • Adhere to company safety policies, procedures, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements.
  • Assist with other assigned duties.
  • Provide technical mentoring and subject-matter expertise to shop personnel when serving as an advanced-level technician.
Desired Qualifications
  • ASE certifications are preferred.
  • Shop Technician IV must obtain or maintain T2 Diesel Engines, T4 Brakes, T5 Suspension and Steering, T6 Electrical/Electronic Systems, and T7 Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning certifications, or equivalents, within one year of promotion.
