About the job

Requirements
  • Professional knowledge of software engineering principles, data structures, algorithms, software design, debugging, automated testing, and the software development lifecycle.
  • Professional experience designing, developing, testing, deploying, or supporting production software using modern programming languages, frameworks, and software engineering practices.
  • Experience independently delivering software features or comparable technical outcomes using a modern programming language, Git-based source control, automated testing, and continuous integration and delivery practices.
  • Experience analyzing moderately complex software problems, making and communicating implementation or design decisions, evaluating technical trade-offs, and applying secure development, reliability, observability, and quality engineering practices.
  • Ability to independently design and deliver features, components, integrations, and moderately complex software outcomes using established architecture and engineering patterns and produce clean, maintainable, appropriately documented, and well-tested code through production.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve moderately complex software and production problems by using code, logs, metrics, traces, debugging tools, and systematic problem solving to identify root causes, evaluate alternatives, implement durable fixes, and escalate systemic or high-risk concerns appropriately.
  • Ability to apply software design principles to define component responsibilities, interfaces, APIs, data models, dependencies, and error-handling approaches; evaluate implementation trade-offs; and make sound design decisions within established architecture, security, and engineering standards.
  • Ability to independently use source control, automated testing, build and deployment pipelines, observability, development environments, and delivery tools to move changes safely through the software lifecycle and support them in production.
  • Ability to responsibly apply AI-enabled engineering tools and practices, Agentic AI patterns, and AI agents to coding, testing, analysis, documentation, and automation while evaluating generated approaches, validating outputs, protecting sensitive information, maintaining human accountability, and upholding engineering standards.
  • Ability to communicate technical designs, implementation choices, defects, dependencies, risks, and trade-offs effectively with technical and non-technical partners; clarify requirements; provide informed recommendations; incorporate feedback; and build trust through reliable follow-through.
  • Ability to independently decompose and organize moderately complex work, estimate and communicate progress, coordinate dependencies, adapt to changing priorities, contribute meaningful code and design reviews, and help improve testing, documentation, operational readiness, and team delivery practices.
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Independently own features and moderately complex software outcomes from refinement through production by clarifying technical requirements, decomposing work, designing and implementing components and integrations, writing and maintaining automated tests, deploying changes, monitoring production behavior, and resolving defects.
  • Make implementation decisions within established architecture and remain accountable for security, quality, reliability, performance, maintainability, supportability, accessibility, and completion of assigned outcomes.
  • Apply knowledge of programming languages, frameworks, APIs, data access and integration patterns, development tools, and the software lifecycle; design cohesive components; evaluate implementation options and trade-offs; and apply testing, debugging, CI/CD, cloud-native, observability, DevSecOps, and production engineering practices.
  • Responsibly use AI-enabled engineering tools, Agentic AI patterns, and AI agents for coding, testing, analysis, documentation, and automation while validating outputs, protecting sensitive information, and maintaining human accountability.
  • Understand product goals, client needs, business processes, acceptance criteria, operational expectations, and risk; refine requirements with product and business partners; identify technical implications and constraints; evaluate trade-offs; and recommend implementation options.
  • Communicate technical recommendations and follow through on commitments as a partner to product and business stakeholders.
  • Contribute to technical design discussions, code reviews, automated testing, deployment readiness, incident response, root-cause analysis, documentation, and continuous improvement for owned work.
  • Identify design, quality, maintainability, reliability, security, and operational concerns; improve test coverage and observability; help resolve delivery or production impediments; and contribute reusable practices that improve team effectiveness and software quality.
  • Collaborate across software and quality engineering, product, architecture, platform, user experience, security, data, operations, and business teams to deliver integrated outcomes; communicate decisions, dependencies, risks, and trade-offs; coordinate dependencies; and help resolve cross-component or cross-team issues.
  • Share engineering knowledge, provide useful review feedback, support less-tenured engineers and peers, maintain reusable documentation, seek coaching when needed, and continue expanding technical and domain expertise.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience designing or operating cloud-native, API-based, event-driven, distributed, or data-intensive application components.
  • Experience with APIs, relational or non-relational data stores, integration patterns, and production troubleshooting.
  • Experience with CI/CD, DevSecOps, observability, automated testing, or production support practices.
  • Experience responsibly applying AI-enabled engineering tools and practices, Agentic AI patterns, AI agents, or intelligent automation throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Advanced knowledge in one or more areas relevant to the team's software, such as application architecture, cloud-native development, APIs and integration, data persistence, distributed systems, security, or performance.
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure automation, DevSecOps, observability, platform engineering, or production reliability practices.
  • Understanding of financial services, agriculture, or other regulated industries.
  • Proficiency with one or more modern programming languages and application development frameworks used by the team.

About the company

Compeer Financial is a member-owned Farm Credit cooperative that provides financial services for agriculture and rural communities in Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. It offers loans, leases, risk management, and other financing solutions tailored to farming operations and rural needs. Should Ag Lenders And Crop Insurers Offer ‘Good Soil Discounts’ To Farmers? Land Core Develops ‘Actuarially Sound Model’ To Make It Possible

Insurers offer discounts for avoiding smoking and good driving because these practices are proven to mitigate risk and save them money. So should insurers and agricultural lenders offer farmers that look after their soil a ‘good soil discount’?. While it’s generally understood that cover cropping, reduced tillage, and crop rotations benefit soil, these practices are by no means ubiquitous, not least because there are high upfront costs, the benefits don’t come overnight, and there are no immediate financial incentives, says soil health nonprofit Land Core. Insurers and lenders, meanwhile, do not currently offer discounts for farmers engaging in such practices because their specific impacts at the field level, especially on crop yields, have not been quantified, it says. Until now
