Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a Master's degree in Accounting is required; a Bachelor's or advanced degree in another business discipline may qualify if it includes sufficient accounting credits for the Certified Public Accountant examination.
  • A current and valid Certified Public Accountant license is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring in new business to a Certified Public Accountant firm is required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English, verbally and in writing, is required.
  • Completion of continuing professional education established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and applicable state society, averaging 40 hours annually, is required.
  • Membership in good standing with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and applicable state society is required.
  • Proficiency with computers and familiarity with tax software, preferably CCH, and tax research software are required.
  • Frequent same-day travel to client offices, meetings, and seminars using a personal vehicle is required.
  • Occasional out-of-town travel with overnight stays using a personal vehicle is required.
  • Occasional overtime is required, including possible overtime and Saturday work from mid-January through the end of April and at other times based on client needs.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the liaison between partners, clients, and professional staff.
  • Manage multiple auditing, accounting, and client engagement projects simultaneously.
  • Schedule, staff, and coordinate engagement workflows.
  • Ensure compliance with professional standards and regulations.
  • Manage all phases of audit, compilation, and review engagements.
  • Plan, schedule, and staff engagements using firm policies and procedures, delegating responsibilities to audit staff when appropriate.
  • Maintain year-round contact with clients and develop thorough knowledge of their businesses and industries.
  • Supervise staff, provide on-the-job training, review staff work papers and reports, and mentor less experienced staff.
  • Provide timely feedback and evaluate staff strengths, weaknesses, progress, and professional development.
  • Develop and manage engagement budgets and review significant budget deviations.
  • Prepare engagement letters for partner approval.
  • Prepare staff performance evaluations.
  • Keep partners informed of engagement developments, analyze issues, and recommend solutions.
  • Communicate engagement progress, issues, and resolutions to clients.
  • Prepare client invoices and communicate fee details.
  • Assist with departmental or firm administration as assigned by Audit Partners.
  • Acquire, develop, and retain clients and nurture relationships with prospective clients.
  • Evaluate internal controls and work programs prepared by staff.
  • Anticipate engagement issues and questions.
  • Ensure financial statements and other reports comply with professional, firm, and regulatory standards.
  • Perform administrative and professional functions of subordinate staff.
  • Disseminate information to staff, partners, and clients.
  • Prepare client engagement budgets and billing.
  • Work with minimal supervision and identify issues for partner discussion before making decisions.
  • Assist with recruiting, develop training aids, and instruct professional development programs.
  • Participate in firm business development efforts.
  • Prepare reports and projects requested by partners.
  • Serve as a content developer and instructor or presenter for department or firm-wide educational programs.
  • Promote the firm and increase profits through participation in civic, business, and professional organizations and targeted professional contacts.
  • Recruit qualified staff members and undertake administrative duties.
  • Learn and implement new technology introduced by the firm.
  • Participate in career development programs to improve managerial, communication, and interpersonal skills.
