About the job
- An associate degree from an accredited educational institution is required.
- ASCP professional certification or equivalent nationally recognized Histology Technician certification or categorical certification in histopathology is required.
- Candidates must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above their shoulders during the work shift.
- Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist and lift up to 20 pounds.
- Candidates must be able to carry up to 40 pounds a reasonable distance.
- Candidates must be able to push or pull with 30 pounds of force.
- Process tissues manually or mechanically through fixation, dehydration, and infiltration.
- Embed tissues, cut sections, and perform routine staining.
- Perform special stains and special immunoperoxidase procedures when necessary.
- Fill in for the Autopsy Assistant when necessary to dispose of hazardous chemical waste and surgical material.
- Assist with processing cytology specimens.
- Perform other duties relating to the responsibilities of a Histology Technician.
- A minimum of one year of experience within the last three years is preferred.
