Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field, plus one year of experience in public administration, law enforcement, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
  • Proficient knowledge of law enforcement operations and procedures, and the functions and organization of local, state, and federal government.
  • Proficient knowledge of law enforcement systems and software, crime analysis methodologies and practices, and statistical research and reporting methods, techniques, and procedures.
  • Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs, including geographic information systems and graphic design concepts.
  • Ability to interpret, compare, and analyze law enforcement information; establish and maintain effective working relationships; work independently with minimal supervision; use rational judgment in work-related decisions; communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing; deliver formal presentations to small and large groups; and perform all physical requirements of the position.
  • Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office and maintain Criminal Justice Information Services eligibility.
  • May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek.
  • Physical requirements include occasional lifting and carrying of 10 to 15 pounds, visual acuity, speech and hearing, and the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a computer keyboard, cellphone, pager, and basic office equipment.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, reach, and handle objects to perform the essential functions.
Responsibilities
  • Collect, analyze, and distribute raw data extracted from numerous law enforcement data sources and compile it into viable criminal intelligence information for investigative and planning purposes.
  • Collect and coordinate information and intelligence; organize, analyze, and prioritize it; and determine its reliability and validity.
  • Develop link analysis, time and temporal analysis, telephone toll analysis, criminal threat analysis, crime incident maps, and computerized charts to organize investigations.
  • Prepare case reports, charts, graphs, and maps in accordance with established procedures for management review and use by police command and field operations.
  • Facilitate the transfer of crime information between local and regional facilities.
  • Maintain the intelligence database, index findings, and review publications.
  • Testify regarding the methodology employed in casework findings in court or official proceedings, as needed.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled departmental and professional meetings.
  • Perform related duties and fulfill responsibilities as required.
