Requirements
- An Associate of Applied Science degree or another related field is required.
- Medical Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners computed tomography certification is required.
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
- A fingerprint clearance card application number is required upon hire.
- A fingerprint clearance card is required within 90 days of hire.
- Employees must obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for assigned roles.
- Colleagues must understand computers and be competent in using computers and basic software programs.
Responsibilities
- Obtain patient history and educate patients and families about procedures, treatment, risks, and prevention.
- Position patients appropriately and perform radiographic procedures and analysis according to departmental guidelines.
- Develop and evaluate radiographic results for technical quality, including density, contrast, definition, and distortion.
- Apply learned methodologies with independent judgment according to established policies and procedures.
- Perform prescribed procedures while maintaining infection prevention standards.
- Explain standard procedures and answer patients’ questions.
- Prepare and clean equipment.
- Produce quality images and prepare and present them with pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.
- Prepare and maintain accurate documentation and archive imaging data as needed or required.
- Collaborate with physicians and other medical professionals.
- Operate head or body scanners to create computer-generated cross-sectional images of patients’ internal organs and tissues.
- Produce computerized tomographic scanner radiographs of specified areas.
- Determine and set appropriate technical parameters to demonstrate anatomy and pathology accurately.
- Perform obstetric and gynecological scans, abdominal scans, retroperitoneal scans, and radiation therapy localization when required.
- Adhere to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety, as well as hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Perform and evaluate equipment quality-control measurements, troubleshoot equipment issues, and notify appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.
- Ensure efficient departmental workflow and maintain adequate inventory of supplies and materials.
- Document incidental findings that may affect patient safety or care and provide that information to the interpreting physician.
- Maintain the accuracy of facility reports, database records, and logs.
- Ensure examination results meet facility quality-assurance standards before release for interpretation.
- Provide oversight for assessing examinations performed within the facility for technical quality, image quality, and accuracy.
- Participate in creating and sustaining a learning environment supported by evidence-based practice and research.
- Engage in personal development and professional interactions with peers and students.
- Participate in ongoing in-service training and educational seminars.
- Orient, assist, mentor, and educate colleagues, students, and onboarding employees.
- Comply with state and federal regulations, statutes, and company policies.
- Complete mandatory modules and required job-specific training within specified time frames.
- Report safety incidents through the Midas/RDE tool, attend safety training, work safely, monitor the work environment for safety issues, and ensure others work safely.
Desired Qualifications
- At least one year of experience as an imaging technologist is preferred.
