CoreWeave undercuts AWS by 40-60% on AI training as Amazon's $54B Q2 capex turns cash flow negative

Amazon Web Services grew 37% year-on-year in Q2, its fastest growth in 18 quarters, with operating margins expanding to 39%. However, Amazon's $54.2 billion quarterly capital expenditure pushed its free cash flow to negative $7.6 billion over the trailing 12 months. The company is guiding towards roughly $200 billion in capital expenditure for fiscal year 2026. Meanwhile, NVIDIA posted 85% revenue growth, with Data Centre revenue reaching $75.25 billion, up 92% year-on-year. The company maintained a 75% gross margin and 60.4% operating margin. CoreWeave is positioning itself as a lower-cost alternative to AWS for AI workloads, claiming to offer 40-60% cheaper compute through bare-metal NVIDIA clusters. NVIDIA supplies infrastructure to both AWS and emerging cloud providers like CoreWeave, benefiting regardless of which platform wins market share.

CoreWeave COO sells $1.3M in shares to cover tax liabilities from stock vesting

CoreWeave's chief operating officer Sachin Jain sold 13,608 shares worth $1.3 million on 10 August, according to SEC filings. The transaction was conducted to meet tax liabilities from vesting restricted stock units, rather than a discretionary market decision. Despite the sale reducing his direct holdings by 8%, Jain retains significant equity with 148,000 shares and 270,000 derivative securities. The shares were sold at $92.09, during a period when CoreWeave's stock has declined steeply over the prior 12 months. CoreWeave provides specialised cloud computing infrastructure for AI and intensive workloads. The company has a $50 billion market capitalisation and $6.2 billion in trailing twelve-month revenue, though it posted a $1.6 billion net loss over the same period.

CoreWeave jumps 24.6% on Q2 results but magnifies market losses by 4x on down days

CoreWeave has risen 24.6% over the last five trading days, compared to 1.2% for the S&P 500, following its second quarter 2026 results. The AI cloud infrastructure company shows a low correlation of 0.39 to the S&P 500 over 1.4 years, suggesting it moves largely independently of the broader market. CoreWeave reported a revenue backlog of $104.2 billion at the end of Q2 2026, roughly forty times its $2.6 billion quarterly revenue. The company says near-term capacity is sold out through long-term contracts. Contracted power grew to 3.7 gigawatts in the quarter. However, on down days for the S&P 500 over the past year, CoreWeave captured approximately 424% of the market's losses.

Jim Chanos warns CoreWeave's AI moat depends on Nvidia, calls neoclouds 'financial conduits, not technology companies

Jim Chanos has warned that CoreWeave's competitive advantage depends entirely on Nvidia, which effectively controls the neocloud business model. The short-seller argued that neoclouds are "financial conduits, not technology companies" and that Nvidia could undermine their position by changing GPU allocation policies or raising prices. Chanos's comments followed a Damsker report challenging CoreWeave CEO Mike Intrator's claim that customers choose the company for product quality. The report argued that CoreWeave simply buys expensive GPUs, builds data centres, and rents computing capacity — a "scarcity claim, not a preference claim." CoreWeave reported $2.58 billion in second-quarter revenue, more than double the previous year, with revenue backlog reaching $104.2 billion. The company raised its 2026 capital spending forecast to between $35 billion and $39 billion.

CoreWeave AI cloud platform powers MasterClass's AI teaching agents.

CoreWeave AI cloud platform powers MasterClass's AI teaching agents. MasterClass is using W&B Weave to trace, monitor, and improve the AI agents that deliver personalized instruction to learners. Aug 14, 2026 Prev Next 1 of 43,486 CoreWeave, Inc., The Essential Cloud for AI(TM), announced that MasterClass, the online personalized learning platform, selected CoreWeave Cloud to evaluate and improve the AI teaching agents that power its personalized instruction. MasterClass will use W&B Weave to evaluate how its AI teaching agents perform across conversations with learners, track their behavior, and use those insights to improve agents over time. AI teaching agents are only as successful as how well they handle an entire conversation with a learner, not just a single question. Evaluating that behavior in production, and improving it continuously, requires both the compute to run agents at scale and the observability to see how they perform with real learners. As AI-native learning tools move from pilots into core product experiences, the ability to trace, monitor, and refine agent behavior in production is becoming as important as the infrastructure running it. "W&B Weave gives us visibility into complete learner conversations, not just individual prompts, so we can see exactly where our AI teaching agents are succeeding and where they need to improve," said Mandar Bapaye, chief product officer and chief technology officer at MasterClass. "That level of insight, combined with the performance we've seen from CoreWeave Cloud, gives us the confidence to scale." MasterClass's use of CoreWeave and W&B Weave spans evaluation and monitoring, allowing MasterClass to build a dedicated AI loop: * Full-conversation tracing: W&B Weave captures complete learner interactions with AI teaching agents, giving MasterClass visibility into how agents perform across an entire conversation. * Production monitoring and custom signals: MasterClass applies custom signals and monitors to live learner interactions to identify where teaching quality and personalization can improve. * Unified system of record: W&B Weave gives MasterClass a single point of visibility across its evolving AI agent pipeline, from experimentation to production. "CoreWeave gives MasterClass a single system of record and the observability their AI teaching agents need to continuously improve," said Jon Jones, chief revenue officer at CoreWeave. "MasterClass is building on a platform designed to support that full lifecycle, from the compute that runs its agents to the visibility into how well they're teaching and learning." MasterClass is extending this evaluation approach beyond its own engineering team. MasterClass Executive, the first business school experience for the AI era, built with the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and with collaboration from OpenAI, selects a cohort of roughly 700 members each year from a pool of about 30,000 applicants. The includes a hands-on AI lab that gives participants a practical framework for evaluating whether an AI system is ready for production, covering quality, cost, latency tradeoffs, and risk areas such as hallucinations, bias, and inadequate guardrails, using Weights & Biases evaluation and tracing tools. CoreWeave consistently delivers industry-leading performance, demonstrated by record-breaking MLPerf benchmark results, its position as the only AI cloud to earn the top Platinum ranking in both SemiAnalysis ClusterMAX(TM) 1.0 and 2.0, and its #1 ranking for inference speed and price-performance for Moonshot AI's Kimi K2.6 in independent inference benchmarking conducted by Artificial Analysis.
