  • At least two years of experience in an industrial setting is required for entry-level and above.
  • Two to six years of experience in an industrial setting and a similar role is required for the mid-level and above classification.
  • Experience with electrical controls is required for the mid-level and above classification.
  • Seven years of experience in an industrial setting and a similar role is required for the advanced-level classification.
Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment according to electrical diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer specifications while following safety procedures, protocols, and established Good Manufacturing Processes.
  • Use an electronic computerized maintenance management system on a mobile device to document completed work orders.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, including inspecting drives and belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, and lubricating shafts, bearings, gears, and other machinery components.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment, including motors, pneumatic systems, electronic boards, programmable logic controllers, touch screens, displays, contactors, conveyors, blending systems, scaling systems, filling systems, cartoning systems, coding and printing systems, compressed-air systems, vacuum systems, hydraulic systems, and bulk-filling systems.
  • Work on single-phase and three-phase electricity systems for production and plant-support equipment, including voltages from 5 VDC to 480 VAC.
  • Perform electrical wiring and work with relay logic, control circuits, and safety circuits.
  • Use blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as needed.
  • Tear down and rebuild gearboxes, clutches, actuators, and other assemblies related to equipment repairs.
  • Record and report damaged, worn, or broken parts.
  • Clean machines and machine parts thoroughly, removing and reinstalling parts as necessary.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, precision measuring instruments, and electrical or electronic test equipment, including drill presses, surface grinders, torches, plasma cutters, pipe threaders, brakes, presses, calipers, and micrometers.
  • Fabricate parts, guards, and modifications for equipment repairs and improvements.
  • Weld different grades of metal for repairs and fabrication using plant welding techniques such as metal inert gas, tungsten inert gas, and arc welding.
  • Troubleshoot heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems as needed.
  • Follow company policies, including manufacturing and safety practices.
  • Report food-safety and quality problems promptly to personnel authorized to initiate corrective action.
  • Train junior or new technicians on equipment, procedures, and troubleshooting practices.
  • Train operators and other support staff in equipment best practices, operation, and setup.
  • Complete preventive maintenance, product changeovers, corrective maintenance, and breakdown maintenance as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Food manufacturing industry experience.
  • A two-year technical or community college degree.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting electrical and electronic systems.
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of programmable logic controller troubleshooting.
  • A two-year Associate of Applied Science degree.
  • Advanced programmable logic controller troubleshooting skills.
  • An electrician’s license.
  • Welding experience or certification.
  • Metal fabrication experience.
