Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must have physical security experience, prior law enforcement experience, or an equivalent military background.
  • Must have at least two years of supervisory experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays, and mandatory overtime; the standard work week is 40 hours with shifts of 8, 10, or 12 hours.
  • Must have prior experience with security and life safety systems, including intrusion alarms, surveillance or CCTV, visitor management, key control, and access systems.
  • Must be proficient with computer software for word processing, spreadsheets, and personal information management.
  • Must complete fitness-for-duty assessments, including written exams and a post-offer pre-employment medical exam, and pass background checks.
  • Must be able to remain on their feet for at least eight hours with scheduled breaks and perform moderate physical activity.
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, walk, and run, and frequently or constantly move objects requiring up to 30 pounds of force.
  • Must be able to operate automobiles, office equipment, radios, telephones, and other equipment.
  • The work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, including extreme temperatures and loud noises, and to hazards and physical risks.
  • A degree from an accredited college or university is preferred but not required; education, training, and/or work experience will be considered.
Responsibilities
  • Provide general security, personal safety, customer services, and specialized security to protect University property from theft and vandalism.
  • Provide general leadership and oversight to front-line security officers and day-to-day security operations.
  • Evaluate the work performance of assigned security officers.
  • Understand access control, camera, fire, and life safety systems, and know the locations of emergency exits.
  • Collect, organize, and complete shift operations reports thoroughly and on time.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, docents, visitors, and other campus community members.
  • Coach assigned security staff to meet or exceed departmental, university, and community expectations.
  • Interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; and address complaints and resolve problems in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and procedures.
  • Assist the Security Operations Manager in creating or reviewing department policies and procedures.
  • Provide a safe and friendly environment for Princeton University residents and visitors.
  • Assist the Head Security Supervisor in preparing schedules and timesheets.
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for security officers with scheduling or personnel-related issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Three to five years of security experience.
  • Art museum and library experience.
  • CIPS, CISS, CIPM, and/or CPP credentials.
