Requirements

  • National or international certification for the specific physical activity courses offered by Austin Community College.
  • Ability to demonstrate physical skills for the specific activity class assigned.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other classroom technologies.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties.
  • Ability to meet physical demands including standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to work safely, follow safety rules, report unsafe working conditions and behavior, and take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent unsafe practices.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and teach physical activity courses in Health & Kinesiology to a multicultural student population based on approved course learning outcomes, using instructional strategies appropriate to community college students and discipline standards.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
  • Provide teaching and mentoring services to students without discrimination based on protected characteristics.
  • Remain current in the field through professional development activities.
  • Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.
  • Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.
  • Use the college's learning management system appropriately.
  • Comply with published college policies and procedures and meet professional standards for teaching in a community college.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, or applicable academic leadership.
