About the company

Augustus provides an AI-native clearing bank platform and its proprietary Marble core to offer 24/7 U.S. dollar accounts and payment rails for institutions such as banks, fintechs, and exchanges. Its product combines a banking backend (the Augustus Bank N.A. charter) with a real-time core system that handles USD accounts and rails including SWIFT, ACH, SEPA, and stablecoins, enabling continuous settlement and cross-border payments for clients rather than consumers. The approach differentiates Augustus from competitors by targeting enterprise clients with an end-to-end, AI-enabled clearing and settlement stack rather than consumer banking, supported by a fully licensed bank charter and a 24/7 operating model. Its goal is to expand direct dollar access for financial institutions across Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa, growing its reach and network through regulatory approvals and funding rounds.

What believers are saying

  • July 2026 Series B raised $180 million from Tiger Global, QED, and fintech founders.
  • Kraken already processes billions through Augustus, validating institutional demand before U.S. launch.
  • Expansion plans target Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, where dollar access hurts.

What critics are saying

  • Augustus remains pre-operational until FDIC insurance and Federal Reserve access clear, delaying revenues.
  • Correspondent banks like JPMorgan and Bank of New York Mellon already own global dollar plumbing.
  • Any OCC or FDIC setback kills the charter thesis and the $1 billion valuation.

What makes Augustus unique

  • May 2026 OCC approval makes Augustus one of few new U.S. national bank-charter approvals.
  • Marble combines AI-native back-office automation with 24/7 settlement across SWIFT, ACH, SEPA, stablecoins.

Augustus raises $180M Series B to expand global access to US dollar banking.

Augustus raises $180M Series B to expand global access to US dollar banking. Augustus has announced a US$180 million Series B funding round at a US$1 billion valuation. The investment was led by Tiger Global, with participation from Hummingbird, QED, and several founders from major fintech companies, including Nubank, Ramp, Circle, and Deel. The company says the new capital will support its mission of giving international fintechs and banks direct access to US dollar accounts and payment rails through a federally chartered banking platform. Augustus plans to expand its services across Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Building a modern clearing bank. Augustus positions itself as a modern clearing bank designed for financial institutions rather than consumers. Its API-first platform enables operating and FBO accounts with named virtual accounts, while supporting transactions through Swift, ACH, SEPA, and stablecoins. The company also plans to continue investing in its proprietary core banking platform, Marble. According to Augustus, Marble uses AI across back-office operations to enable faster settlement times and around-the-clock availability. Earlier this year, Augustus received conditional approval for a US national bank charter from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). The company says this will allow it to provide customers with direct access to US dollar banking infrastructure instead of relying on multiple correspondent banks and intermediaries. Why it matters for fintech. Access to US dollar infrastructure remains a challenge for many fintechs operating outside the United States. Augustus aims to simplify this by combining regulated banking capabilities with programmable APIs in a single platform. If the company executes on its strategy, it could help international fintechs reduce operational complexity while improving access to cross-border payments and dollar-based financial services. Key takeaways for fintech startups. As global banking infrastructure continues to evolve, this announcement highlights several industry trends: * Augustus raised US$180 million in Series B funding at a US$1 billion valuation. * The company plans to expand direct US dollar banking access for international fintechs and banks. * Its platform combines a federally chartered banking model with API-first infrastructure. * Augustus will continue investing in AI-powered banking operations through its Marble platform. Augustus becomes a unicorn: $180 million for global dollar infrastructure.

Augustus becomes a unicorn: $180 million for global dollar infrastructure. Augustus is developing a modern banking infrastructure that provides banks and fintech companies worldwide with direct access to the U.S. dollar. With its own U.S. banking license and AI-powered platform, the company aims to transform international payments. News by Marc Nemitz · Berlin, 23. July 2026 The German-American fintech company Augustus (formerly Ivy), with offices in Berlin and New York, has closed a Series B funding round of $180 million, reaching a valuation of $1 billion. The round is led by Tiger Global. Other investors include Hummingbird, QED, as well as existing investors and prominent founders from the international fintech scene, including representatives from Nubank, Ramp, Circle, and Deel. With the fresh capital, Augustus aims to accelerate its international expansion and provide financial institutions worldwide with direct access to U.S. dollar payments. Modern dollar infrastructure for banks and fintechs. Augustus is developing an API-based banking platform that offers international banks and fintechs direct access to U.S. dollar accounts and payment processing. Instead of involving multiple correspondent banks or intermediaries, financial institutions can access the U.S. dollar infrastructure directly through Augustus. The platform supports, among other things, SWIFT, ACH, SEPA, and transactions with stablecoins. At its heart is Marble, a proprietary core banking platform that uses artificial intelligence to automate settlement processes and enables virtually round-the-clock availability of the banking infrastructure. Own banking license as a strategic advantage. A major milestone for Augustus was the provisional approval for a national U.S. banking license granted by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) in May 2026. This makes Augustus one of the few technology companies permitted to establish a federally regulated bank in the U.S. Through this infrastructure, the company can offer international financial institutions direct access to the U.S. dollar and differentiate itself from traditional correspondent banks and middleware providers. International growth markets. Augustus's key target markets include Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. In these regions, demand for a modern, programmable dollar infrastructure is growing steadily, particularly among digital banks and fintechs. With its combination of its own banking license, modern software, and AI-powered automation, Augustus is positioning itself as an infrastructure provider for next-generation cross-border payments. German-American fintech valued at billions. With this latest funding round, Augustus has joined the ranks of the "unicorns" and is now among the most valuable German-American fintech companies. The funding underscores investors' confidence in the approach of replacing traditional banking infrastructure with technology-driven solutions and providing international financial institutions with direct access to the global dollar system.

Augustus raises $180 million to build clearing bank for stablecoins.

Augustus raises $180 million to build clearing bank for stablecoins. By PYMNTS | July 21, 2026 Augustus, formerly known as Ivy, raised $180 million in a Series B funding round to support its offering that gives financial institutions around the world direct access to dollar accounts and rails through a federally chartered bank. The company will use the new funding to continue serving FinTechs and banks in Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa, it said in a Tuesday (July 21) press release. Augustus' platform supports operating and FBO accounts with named virtual accounts and enables customers to transact with first and third parties via Swift, ACH, SEPA and stablecoins, according to the release. "We started Augustus with a simple thesis: the Dollar is the greatest product in the world but its distribution is fundamentally broken," Augustus CEO and Co-Founder Ferdinand Dabitz said in the release. "This financing lets us execute on our mission to provide high-quality dollar access to international FinTechs and banks. It's time to dollarize the world." QED Investors was among the participants in Augustus' latest funding round. Nigel Morris, managing partner at QED Investors, said in the release that correspondent banking has not been challenged yet by FinTechs and that this has left global FinTechs and banks with a choice of only "slow, low-tech" incumbent correspondent banks or middleware FinTech providers. "Augustus solves this by combining cutting-edge technology with a real bank charter, providing international financial institutions with a modern, direct dollar clearing platform," Morris said. PYMNTS reported May 11 that Ivy rebranded as Augustus on that day and announced that it received conditional approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to establish a full-service U.S. national bank. Augustus said at the time in a press release that its goal is to become the first clearing bank "for the AI era," founded on a "stablecoin and AI-native core." "The existing clearing model runs on legacy correspondents that are closed 115 days a year, built for humans, and take two days to settle," the company said. When still known as Ivy, the company raised $20 million in an August 2023 Series A round to expand a global network for open banking payments.

Augustus raises $180 million to build a stablecoin-ready 'Global Dollar Bank'

Augustus raises $180 million to build a stablecoin-ready 'Global Dollar Bank' The Tiger Global-led round values the startup at $1 billion as it wires stablecoin rails directly into a federally chartered bank, aiming to modernize the correspondent-banking plumbing behind cross-border payments. Jul 21, 2026 In brief. * Augustus raised $180 million at a $1 billion valuation, led by Tiger Global with backing from the founders of Nubank, Ramp, Circle, and Deel, plus figures like Balaji Srinivasan. * Rather than issue its own stablecoin, the firm is building a chartered "Global Dollar Bank" that moves money across both traditional rails. * The deal underscores how dollar-pegged stablecoins are becoming mainstream financial infrastructure, backed by Augustus' conditional OCC national bank charter and framed partly as a counter to China's digital yuan and Russia's proposed BRICS Pay. Augustus, a startup building a federally chartered clearing bank designed around stablecoins and programmable money, said Tuesday it raised $180 million in a Series B round that values the company at $1 billion. The round was led by Tiger Global, with participation from Hummingbird, QED, and the founders of Nubank, Ramp, Circle, and Deel. A roster of fintech and crypto figures also backed the deal, including Circle co-founder Sean Neville, former Coinbase Chief Technology Officer Balaji Srinivasan, and Rain's Farooq Malik. Augustus said it has raised $210 million to date. The company is targeting correspondent banking, the plumbing that lets money move between institutions across borders. Rather than issuing its own stablecoin, Augustus is building infrastructure that lets banks and fintechs transact across both traditional rails and blockchain networks. Its API-first platform supports operating and FBO accounts and settles via Swift, ACH, SEPA and stablecoins, running on a proprietary core banking system called Marble that the firm says enables faster settlement and 24/7 availability by deploying AI across the back office. Stablecoins are central to why the deal matters to financial markets. Stablecoins are tokens designed to hold a steady value, usually pegged one-to-one to U.S. dollars, which allow market participants to enter and exit trades without the need to access dollars directly. Dollar-pegged stablecoins have grown into a multibillion-dollar settlement layer, extending the reach of the U.S. dollar and pressuring the slow, weekday-bound correspondent system that still underpins cross-border payments. By wiring stablecoin rails directly into a chartered bank, Augustus is positioning that emerging crypto infrastructure as a plumbing upgrade for mainstream institutions, rather than a workaround. The financing follows Augustus' conditional approval in May for a U.S. national bank charter from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, which the company said made it the eighth bank to win conditional approval since 2010. The startup already counts crypto exchange Kraken among its customers. "We started Augustus with a simple thesis: the Dollar is the greatest product in the world but its distribution is fundamentally broken," said Ferdinand Dabitz, CEO and co-founder. "This financing lets us execute on our mission to provide high-quality dollar access to international fintechs and banks. It's time to dollarize the world." Augustus framed the effort partly as a geopolitical bet, noting China's digital yuan and Russia's proposed BRICS Pay as challenges to Western currency dominance. It plans to use the capital to expand across Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa, where dollar access remains limited.
