KRAFTON India partners with IIT Madras.

KRAFTON India partners with IIT Madras. September 1, 2026 KRAFTON India has launched KIGI Academy, an industry-academia program built to train the country's next generation of game developers. The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) to run the academy's first batch. Students selected for the program will train in coding, game design, UI/UX, art, and product development. The six-month course is fully funded and includes a residency at KRAFTON India's Bengaluru office. Here is everything KRAFTON India has confirmed about the KIGI Academy, including its structure, eligibility criteria, and selection process. KIGI Academy program structure and duration. The KIGI Academy runs for six months and splits into two phases. The first phase lasts four months and takes place on the IIT Madras campus. Students then move to an 8-week residency at KRAFTON India's headquarters in Bengaluru. During the 16-week campus phase, students build core game development skills using the Unity engine. The training focuses on mobile gaming and includes weekly collaborative builds. The Bengaluru residency exposes participants to real-world game production. Each student works toward a final vertical-slice game, which they showcase at the end of the program. Eligibility and selection process. KIGI Academy will admit 30 students in its first cohort. Of these, 10 will move on to the Bengaluru residency after the campus phase. The program is open to IIT Madras students only for this batch. Eligible applicants include third-year and fourth-year Bachelor's students, Dual Degree students across all years, and postgraduate or Master's students from any engineering discipline. No prior game development experience is required. Selection happens in three steps. Students apply through the IIT Madras placement portal, go through application screening, and then sit for a personal interview. What students learn and career opportunities. Participants get mentorship from industry experts throughout the program and get exposure to KRAFTON's internal development standards. Students who perform well during the residency may also receive full-time job offers at KRAFTON India. KIGI Academy builds on KRAFTON Jungle in Korea. KIGI Academy takes inspiration from KRAFTON Jungle, a training program KRAFTON has run in Korea since October 2022. KRAFTON Jungle uses project-based residencies instead of classroom lectures, taking developers through a full game development cycle from prototype to launch. The company aims to scale that Korean program to train 1,000 developers every year. Mentors from the Jungle program will also guide developers selected for KIGI Academy, connecting the two training models across markets. Why KRAFTON India chose IIT Madras. IIT Madras has held the No. 1 rank among India's engineering institutions for 10 consecutive years under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). KRAFTON India said the institute was picked as the founding partner because of an existing multi-year relationship built through Rendezvous, technical festivals, and game jams, which has already led to full-time job offers for IIT Madras students in the past. What KRAFTON India and IIT Madras said. Anuj Sahni, Head of KRAFTON Incubator Program and Director of Publishing at KRAFTON India, said the country has strong engineering and creative talent but lacked a structured path connecting academic learning to real game development work. He said KIGI Academy aims to close that gap by giving students a chance to learn the full game-making process, from ideation to publishing, under industry guidance. Saurabh Shah, Head of People Operations at KRAFTON India, said the program is meant to identify promising talent early and connect students to careers in game development through mentorship and hands-on training. Discover more Reading Game Reviews Reading Entertainment News Prof. Prathap Haridoss, Dean of Academic Courses at IIT Madras, said the collaboration reflects how academia and industry can work together on practical challenges, giving students direct exposure to the game development process.

KRAFTON India, IIT Madras to launch gaming Academy for students.

KRAFTON India, IIT Madras to launch gaming Academy for students. KRAFTON India and IIT Madras have teamed up to launch KIGI Academy, a program focused on giving students practical game development skills and industry exposure. Published on: 01 Sep 2026, 5:24 am Updated on: 01 Sep 2026, 5:24 am KRAFTON India and IIT Madras have joined hands to launch the KRAFTON India Gaming Incubator Academy, known as KIGI Academy. The program is especially aimed at helping Indian students understand game development. This course is exclusively available to IIT Madras students in third- and fourth-year Bachelor's and Dual Degree programs, along with postgraduate and Master's students from any engineering discipline. The best part is, no prior game development experience is required for it. The collaborative program will bring students closer to both classroom learning and real-world gaming work. The six-month program is designed to offer students a hands-on experience of game development, including areas like coding, UI/UX, art, and product development. During the program, students will learn the core of game development using the Unity game engine, which is mainly focused on mobile game development. Once students enroll and complete the six-month training, they will be given two months of residency at Krafton India's headquarters in Bengaluru. Initially, it will begin with 30 students from the IIT, among whom 10 will be residential. India already has a massive gaming audience. However, the next challenge is to build more games within the country. This needs skilled professionals in game design, art, programming, testing, and other parts of development. KIGI Academy could help close this gap by giving students a closer look at how the industry works. Instead of learning only from books, students can understand how their skills are used while making real games. The KRAFTON India and IIT Madras partnership could also encourage more colleges and gaming companies to work together. Such programs can give students a clearer path into the industry and help more young developers turn their ideas into games.

Krafton announces PUBG Mobile Light, A less intensive version for weaker smartphones.

Krafton announces PUBG Mobile Light, A less intensive version for weaker smartphones. Not to be confused with the long-dormant PUBG Mobile Lite, this new app keeps the core game intact while cutting install size down to about 1GB. Story Highlights * Krafton has announced PUBG Mobile Light, a new app built for lower-end phones, with pre-registration opening August 25, 2026. * Unlike the older, long-dormant PUBG Mobile Lite, Light keeps the core game and progression tied to the main app rather than offering a stripped-down experience. * The full release is planned before the end of 2026, alongside a separate BGMI Lite version confirmed for India. A new app, not A revival of the old one. Krafton confirmed the new app in a post on X: Introducing PUBG MOBILE LIGHT, a new app coming soon. The Original PUBG MOBILE, Now Lighter. A lighter way to enter the original Battle Royale, joining the PUBG MOBILE family. Free to download on both Android & iOS. Pre-registration starts 8/25." - PUBG Mobile producer Rick Li. It's worth being clear about what this actually is, since PUBG Mobile Lite has technically existed for years already as a separate, stripped-down app with smaller maps and reduced player counts, but one that hasn't received meaningful updates in a long time. PUBG Mobile Light is a different project entirely. According to Dot Esports, Light isn't built around smaller maps or fewer players. Instead, it keeps players inside the main PUBG Mobile ecosystem while cutting down the initial download and letting players choose which additional content actually gets installed on their device. What's actually different. The initial install size is expected to land around 1GB on Android and under 2GB on iOS, with additional content modules downloadable separately rather than bundled upfront. The core map, Erangel, and the main combat experience are both confirmed to carry over from the standard app, and existing PUBG Mobile accounts, along with owned items, cosmetics, and friends lists, will transfer directly into Light. Krafton also confirmed both versions will receive content updates simultaneously, and players on Light will be able to team up and matchmake with players on the standard app rather than being siloed into a separate player base. Krafton India separately confirmed a parallel version called BGMI Lite is also coming, aimed at Battlegrounds Mobile India players, with a launch targeted by the end of 2026. India's version does not yet have a confirmed pre-registration date of its own, and shouldn't be assumed to follow the same August 25 schedule as the global PUBG Mobile Light rollout. Pre-Registration opens this month. Pre-registration for PUBG Mobile Light opens August 25, 2026, on both the Google Play Store and Apple's App Store. Krafton has said the full release is planned before the end of 2026, though an exact launch date hasn't been announced yet. For players who've held off on PUBG Mobile because of storage limits or an older phone, this looks like the more direct answer to that problem than the aging Lite app, provided Krafton actually keeps it updated in step with the main game as promised. For a broader look at how PUBG Mobile already diverges from its PC counterpart in design and pacing, its PUBG Mobile vs. PC comparison covers what makes the mobile version its own experience.
