Requirements
  • Familiarity with assigned civil construction work and the ability to ensure work meets or exceeds applicable standards.
  • Knowledge of safety hazards related to the work and the ability to safely and effectively use or operate work-related tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work in plant operations or construction jobsite settings.
  • Ability to work across active construction sites with uneven terrain, mud, gravel, sand, elevated surfaces, confined spaces, restricted-access areas, and changing weather conditions.
  • Ability to handle hand tools, power tools, equipment, instruments, and job-related materials.
  • Ability to move, transport, position, push, pull, lift, or carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to read, interpret, apply, and communicate work instructions, plans, specifications, company policies, safety requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations and apply measurement, estimation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain concentration, situational awareness, and attention to detail in active work environments.
  • Ability to make timely decisions related to safety, quality, productivity, and project requirements.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work conditions, schedules, priorities, and operational demands.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate civil construction crews performing earthworks, concrete, drainage, stormwater, and structural work.
  • Supervise and set direction for all Foremen and Leadmen on-site to ensure effective use of company resources and adherence to company policies and state and federal regulations.
  • Provide formal coaching and feedback to Foremen.
  • Schedule equipment, materials, and tools to maximize production and minimize costs, after becoming familiar with the scope of work and site conditions, and collaborate with the Civil Superintendent on scheduled activities.
  • Manage, coach, and train employees; implement standardized work plans; and assist the Civil Superintendent with process-improvement efforts.
  • Manage and maintain responsibility for safe working conditions and discipline-specific safety procedures on the project.
  • Understand and enforce company, jobsite-specific, federal, and state safety regulations, and address concerns with the Civil Superintendent.
  • Remain accountable for project construction activities and communicate expectations to craftsmen, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Maintain labor and equipment production records and compare production with estimates.
  • Communicate cost overruns and company-resource utilization to the Civil Superintendent.
  • Mentor Foremen regarding production costs, scope of work, quality, and safety.
  • Maintain and update crew and equipment matrices.
  • Hold crew members and Foremen accountable for company and project rules.
  • Ensure that standard operating procedures and best practices are followed.
  • Maintain familiarity with concrete mix designs and the curing process.
  • Conduct weekly and quarterly safety and quality audits.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of the quality-control process as it pertains to the checkout process.
  • Receive permits supporting the work being performed.
