Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Mall of America announced Studs’ first Minnesota studio for summer 2026.
  • Studs said it hit 1 million customers by May 2025, validating demand.
  • Retail expansion accelerated from 23 stores in 2024 toward 40 studios in 2026.

What critics are saying

  • Studs still sells only earrings and piercings; one fad shift hurts revenue fast.
  • Mall-of-America expansion into 2026 raises fixed-cost exposure if traffic softens.
  • Any piercing safety incident would damage trust instantly and choke new-store demand.

What makes STUDS unique

  • Studs built the needle-only, consultative ear-piercing category Claire’s never owned.
  • By 2026, Studs reached 40 studios, proving a repeatable physical-retail playbook.
  • Fancy Studs and Stephanie Gottlieb expanded the brand into higher-margin fine jewelry.
