Fastly has partnered with Spain's LALIGA on an AI-driven anti-piracy project to detect and disrupt illegal live sports streams in real time. The collaboration aims to help platforms remove unauthorised content whilst protecting rights holders' economic interests. The partnership showcases Fastly's edge security and AI capabilities in high-value live sports content, where piracy can significantly erode media owners' revenue. However, analysts note the deal doesn't materially change the company's near-term investment narrative, which centres on executing security-led growth whilst managing rising costs. Fastly recently appointed Joan Jenkins as chief marketing officer to help commercialise offerings like the LALIGA solution. The company remains unprofitable, with some analysts projecting only 5.7% annual revenue growth and no profitability for at least three years.
Fastly shares fell 18% on Friday, with Akamai down 13% and Cloudflare dropping 11%, following Anthropic's launch of Claude Managed Agents. Investors appear concerned the development signals a competitive shift in cloud and edge infrastructure markets. The selloff occurred despite each company investing heavily in AI-driven services. Cloudflare has built Workers AI and an Agents SDK, whilst Fastly CEO Kip Compton noted managing agents has increased platform usage. Akamai recently launched Inference Cloud to support AI inference scaling. Anthropic's Claude Managed Agents offers a hosted service for running long-horizon agents with virtualised sessions, orchestration loops and execution environments. The simplified interface could reduce developer complexity, suggesting AI-native platforms may increasingly overlap with traditional edge and cloud infrastructure functions.
Fastly, LaLiga collaborate on anti-piracy innovation. April 10, 2026 Fastly, a specialist in global edge cloud platforms, and LaLiga, Spain's Professional Football Association, have partnered to develop technical solutions to address the illegal streaming of live sports, with a particular focus on LaLiga's matches. With LaLiga estimating that piracy costs its clubs between $700-$800 million (€600-€700 million) each year, the two companies are collaborating on a joint anti-piracy innovation project with the dual goals of helping platforms combat piracy and enabling rights holders like LaLiga to preserve the economic value of their copyrighted content by mitigating illegal use. Fastly and LaLiga began collaborating in 2025, motivated by the scale of illegal streaming of live sports, with numerous unauthorised streaming sites active on each match day. To help LaLiga combat this content theft, Fastly has developed a targeted, intelligent detection system that leverages AI and proprietary content signals to identify illegal streams in real time. A 2025 study by Grant Thorton revealed that at least 10.8 million unauthorised retransmissions of live events were detected in 2024, over 81 per cent of these retransmissions were never suspended, and only 2.7 per cent were addressed within the first 30 minutes of the event. Fastly's solution is designed to address these challenges by enabling the removal of illegal content by its platform customers with enhanced precision and dramatically reduces the window of opportunity for piracy. This unique approach reflects Fastly's strong commitment to leveraging technology to help its customers protect their platforms and rights holders better protect their intellectual property without needing to resort to legal enforcement measures against intermediaries. "At LaLiga, we have succeeded in reducing piracy of our streams in Spain by 60 per cent during the 2024/25 season through a comprehensive, end-to-end strategy focused on legal, educational, institutional, and technological measures," said Javier Tebas, President at LaLiga. "This success is due in large part to our ecosystem of partners like Fastly, enabling us to continue exploring new and more effective ways to tackle piracy at its root. LaLiga remains firmly committed to putting an end to piracy, and achieving this goal requires the collaboration of all stakeholders working together." LaLiga and Fastly's joint initiative comes as part of their wider efforts that allow media and publishing companies to flag confirmed pirated content and segments. Fastly and LaLiga are actively collaborating with other technology companies, publishers, and regulators to develop software solutions and best practices that quickly detect and disable unauthorised streaming while leaving all other traffic untouched. "Unlike alternative approaches based on regional blocking, our strategy focuses on precision, letting fans enjoy the game while protecting content from abuse by criminals," added Kelly Shortridge, Chief Product Officer at Fastly. "At Fastly, we love co-innovating with customers to solve their thorniest challenges, and we look forward to continuing our work with LaLiga to help protect content owners around the world."

Fastly named a leader in edge development as pinoys demand faster, safer apps. MANILA, Philippines (Apr 2026) - Ever wonder why some apps feel snappy and instant while others lag the moment you tap? The secret usually lies in the "edge" - tech that puts data processing closer to the user rather than in a far-off server - and Fastly has just been recognized as one of the best in the world at doing exactly that. Independent research firm Forrester named Fastly a Leader in its Q1 2026 report for Edge Development Platforms. For the average Pinoy user, this means the backbone of popular sites like Reddit and SeatGeek is getting smarter, more secure, and significantly faster. Putting performance first. In an era where a split-second delay can mean a lost sale or a frustrated gamer, the report highlighted Fastly's focus on performance and latency optimization. Fastly was the only vendor in the evaluation to receive above-average customer feedback, with users praising the platform's reliability and developer experience. By moving computing power closer to where people actually are, companies can deliver software that is "always on" and resilient against crashes. This is especially critical for enterprises in the Philippines' growing IT-BPM and fintech sectors, where speed and security are non-negotiable. The future of "edge-first" apps. Fastly isn't just sticking to basic web delivery. The company is currently expanding into AI-assisted development and edge-first event streaming. This allows developers to build more complex apps that can handle massive amounts of data in real-time without slowing down the user's device. According to Fastly's Chief Product Officer Kelly Shortridge, investing in these edge platforms is how modern businesses stay competitive. By weaving security and performance directly into the fabric of the internet, they are making it easier for companies to invent new types of apps that weren't possible a few years ago. Availability.
