Requirements
  • A college or university degree in a related field is required.

  • Knowledge and skills in classical or quantum networks, including network timing, optical switching, and synchronization, are preferred.

  • Deep understanding of optical fiber propagation, photonics, and fiber losses is preferred.
  • Familiarity with quantum mechanics, entanglement, quantum memories, or quantum key distribution protocols is preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer programming, including Python and Visual Studio C/C++, is preferred.
  • Proficiency in security implementation, compliance regulations, and risk management is preferred.
  • Proficiency in routing, switching, firewalls, and network protocols is preferred.
  • Complex quantum network issue resolution skills are preferred.
  • Quantum networking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills are preferred.
  • Industry certifications related to specific technical areas are preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee the launch and maintenance of the Midwest Quantum Network Facility by reducing optical losses, optimizing network control and applications, integrating control devices, and facilitating the incorporation of new quantum components and protocols.
  • Lead the expansion of quantum network infrastructure to deploy and integrate additional quantum nodes into the network.
  • Represent the Midwest Quantum Network Facility in technical engagements with industry partners, federal agencies, and research collaborators.
  • Interface with central Information Technology and Facilities stakeholders to ensure the quantum network infrastructure meets University and facility strategic goals.
  • Distill complex technical milestones into actionable narratives for executive leadership and board-level stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with technical staff at partnering organizations to develop secure quantum networking technologies.
  • Deploy quantum networking technologies, including low-loss fiber-based quantum repeaters, quantum-classical hybrid systems, and optimized fiber infrastructure for secure data transmission.
  • Implement fiber-optic links for quantum entanglement distribution and quantum communication networks.
  • Deploy hardware that interfaces qubits with optical fibers, including high-efficiency single-photon sources and detectors.
  • Report on site readiness, risk analysis, and strategic planning to senior leadership.
  • Investigate long-range connections to other regional and national quantum networks.
  • Support the operation and service levels of quantum networking systems.
  • Present technical information to technical team members and employees unfamiliar with quantum networking terminology.
  • Resolve complex problems involving vendor consulting services, including developing project statements of work and determining vendor resource requirements.
  • Lead the development, design, and implementation of a Networking Services and Information Technologies network.
  • Create project plans for network design, implementation, and upgrades or modifications to existing networks.
  • Manage the installation of network hardware, communications wiring, wireless telecommunication facilities, communications software, and other network components.
  • Identify problems with network components and services.
  • Conduct trending and analysis of network traffic patterns and make recommendations.
  • Perform other related work as needed.
