Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED plus completion of related technical or vocational education or training is required.
  • Two years of work-related experience are required.
  • A valid Class A commercial driver's license with airbrake designation is required, along with a motor vehicle record compliant with the University's Driving for University Business SAP.
  • Applicants must provide average hours worked per week for current and previous positions.
  • The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • The employee must be available to work and perform essential job functions on campus.
  • The employee may be required to work during emergency closures and winter closures because the position is essential.
Responsibilities
  • Remove ice and snow from University parking lots, streets, and sidewalks; operate a rotary blade snow removal truck; and load and transport snow from campus using front-end loaders and dump trucks.
  • Level and contour dirt roads on campus and outlying farms using a motor grader.
  • Mix, load, transport, and deposit topsoil for campus landscaping using heavy equipment including dozers, loaders, motor graders, and skid loaders.
  • Load, transport, and deposit gravel or asphalt for street and road repairs.
  • Operate backhoes and trenching machines to excavate ditches and trenches needed to repair or install underground utilities.
  • Operate a street-sweeping machine to maintain the campus environment.
  • Operate mobile overhead cranes with radio or hand signals for project work such as roof work and assist contractors with crane operations.
  • Prepare crane rigging and determine whether crane operations are safe; call off operations when conditions such as high winds, weight limitations, high electrical wires, confined areas, or other hazards make the work unsafe.
  • Perform manual labor such as digging, shoveling concrete or asphalt, removing concrete or asphalt, and other assigned related duties.
  • Assist with garbage collection and campus cleanup crews as necessary.
Desired Qualifications
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Knowledge of mountain road maintenance.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Knowledge of how to care for and safely and efficiently operate equipment and tools used in the area of operation.
