- Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
- Assist with store merchandising by facilitating and/or participating in staging, stocking and storage of merchandise; ensuring that merchandise is presented according to established practices and store manager direction; and properly utilizing merchandise fixtures, signing and pricing of merchandise.
- Assist in all aspects of inventory management (including proper execution of damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork and facility controls); prepare and conduct inventories.
- Follow prescribed ordering practices to ensure the meeting or exceeding of in-stock targets.
- Provide superior customer service leadership.
- Act as a role model by following company procedures and policies as outlined in the employee handbook, SOP manual and company communications.
- Participate in store opening and closing activities.
- Ensure the safe deposit of all company funds in the designated bank.
- Assist in ensuring the financial integrity of the store through strict cashier accountability, key control and adherence to company security practices and cash control procedures.
- Assist in the maintenance of clean, well-stocked stores; provide a safe environment for customers and employees.

New Dollar General store opens in Hagerstown. Janis Reeser The Herald-Mail July 14, 2026, 5:07 a.m. ET Dollar General has opened a new store at 350 N. Burhans Blvd. in Hagerstown. The store hosted a grand opening event June 27, according to a community announcement. Six to 10 jobs to be created. The store is expected to employ about six to 10 people, depending on the needs of the store, the announcement said. Dollar General's job benefits. Dollar General offers competitive wages, training and development programs. Benefits include day-one telemedicine eligibility, health insurance options, 401K savings and retirement plans, tuition reimbursement, paid parental leave and adoption assistance for eligible employees, according to the announcement. Dollar General: opportunities for literacy grants. The company also supports literacy and education initiatives through the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. Schools, nonprofit organizations and libraries within a 15-mile radius of the Hagerstown store can apply for Dollar General Literacy Foundation grants. Since its inception in 1993, the foundation has awarded more than $292 million in grants to nonprofit organizations, helping more than 28 million individuals take their first steps toward literacy or continued education, according to the announcement.
Dollar General on 2nd street to close July 17. By Alecia Heidemann Some of the rumors you may have heard around Kimball are true - the Dollar General at 215 W. 2nd St. will permanently close its doors July 17. Store manager Shaney Stumpf confirmed the closure to The Observer earlier this week, though a sign outside the business's door announced this even earlier. Posted on June 02, 2026 By News Team Discount retailer Dollar General (NYSE:DG) met Wall Street's revenue expectations in Q1 CY2026, with sales up 3.4% year on year to $10.79 billion. Its GAAP profit of $2 per share was 6.2% above analysts' consensus estimates. Company overview. Appealing to the budget-conscious consumer, Dollar General (NYSE:DG) is a discount retailer that sells a wide range of household essentials, groceries, apparel/beauty products, and seasonal merchandise. Revenue growth. A company's long-term performance is an indicator of its overall quality. Even a bad business can shine for one or two quarters, but a top-tier one grows for years. With $43.08 billion in revenue over the past 12 months, Dollar General is larger than most consumer retail companies and benefits from economies of scale, enabling it to gain more leverage on its fixed costs than smaller competitors. This also gives it the flexibility to offer lower prices. However, its scale is a double-edged sword because there is only so much real estate to build new stores, placing a ceiling on its growth. To accelerate sales, Dollar General likely needs to optimize its pricing or lean into international expansion. As you can see below, Dollar General's sales grew at a sluggish 3.9% compounded annual growth rate over the last three years, but to its credit, it opened new stores and increased sales at existing, established locations. Number of stores. The number of stores a retailer operates is a critical driver of how quickly company-level sales can grow. Dollar General sported 21,055 locations in the latest quarter. Over the last two years, it has opened new stores quickly, averaging 2.6% annual growth. This was faster than the broader consumer retail sector. When a retailer opens new stores, it usually means it's investing for growth because demand is greater than supply, especially in areas where consumers may not have a store within reasonable driving distance.
Mayor issues statement on store closure. Posted 9:58 AM, Jun 01, 2026 The recently opened Dollar General store in Scott is currently closed for code violations. Katc Communications, Inc. reached out to Scott Mayor Jan Scott Richard, and he sent Katc Communications, Inc. a statement indicating the city had suspended the store's occupational license because of a failure to maintain the site - and local and corporate management's failure to respond to the city. Some of the violations included "landscaping, tree maintenance, litter control, drainage and detention pond upkeep, and the overall appearance of the site." Katc Communications, Inc. has reached out to Dollar General to see if they have any response. Here's the mayor's complete statement: The City of Scott has established standards and expectations that are intended to protect the quality of life, appearance, and integrity of its community. As a governmental entity, it is its responsibility to enforce the ordinances, rules, regulations, and conditions approved by the City Council fairly and consistently for all businesses operating within its city. When a business is granted approval to develop and operate, particularly within or adjacent to a neighborhood setting, there is an obligation and expectation that the property will be maintained in accordance with the commitments and conditions under which it was approved. This includes landscaping, tree maintenance, litter control, drainage and detention pond upkeep, and the overall appearance of the site. Unfortunately, despite repeated communication and opportunities to address these concerns, the property has not been maintained to the standards required by the City of Scott. The condition of the site and the lack of responsiveness from both local management and the corporate office are unacceptable. The City supports business growth and values partnerships with the private sector. However, those partnerships must be reciprocal, and compliance with council decisions, city ordinances, and applicable regulations is not optional. For that reason, the suspension of the occupational license will remain in place until the outstanding deficiencies are corrected to the satisfaction of the City and assurances are made that these standards will be maintained moving forward. Its administration will continue to uphold the standards its residents expect and deserve while working professionally and fairly with all businesses operating within the City of Scott.
