About the job

Requirements
  • Experience building or evaluating machine-learning or large-language-model-powered systems in production, in a role accountable for output quality.
  • Prior experience building evaluation or validation datasets, with the ability to explain how correctness was defined, how labels were sourced, what failed, and how label quality was assessed.
  • Working fluency in machine-learning validation fundamentals, including train/validation/test discipline, stratified sampling, precision/recall trade-offs, class imbalance, calibration, inter-rater agreement, basic significance testing, and statistical power.
  • Understanding of feature engineering sufficient to reason about classifier failures and the data needed to reveal them.
  • Strong Python and SQL skills, including the ability to pull and reshape data independently.
  • Hands-on experience with large-language-model-based systems, including prompting, structured outputs, agent and tool-use harnesses, and failure modes such as non-determinism, prompt sensitivity, and evaluator bias.
  • Judgment about when large-language-model-as-judge is reliable and how to establish that reliability.
  • Ability to read system designs, understand encoded business logic, and translate it into a label schema independently.
Responsibilities
  • Read pipelines and system architecture, work with product and engineering, and decompose systems into evaluable modules with explicit input-to-expected-output contracts.
  • Define correctness for each module in writing, including rubrics, label schemas, edge-case policies, and business-relevant tolerances.
  • Prioritize validation sets to unblock the most iteration across modules, with minimal direction from principal engineers.
  • Source stratified, de-identified samples from production traffic so evaluation sets reflect actual system inputs, including long-tail cases.
  • Scope and run human-labeling programs, write annotation guidelines, build calibration sets, measure inter-annotator agreement, and manage vendors or internal subject-matter experts while owning label quality.
  • Design oracle harnesses using frontier models, additional compute, long context, multiple passes, tool use, or self-consistency to produce ground truth for production paths; verify oracle output against human-labeled samples.
  • Construct programmatic and adversarial datasets using heuristic labels, templated edge cases, and backtests derived from past incidents.
  • Version datasets and track lineage, splits, and which model or prompt versions have seen each example.
  • Guard against contamination and leakage, including evaluation examples entering few-shot prompts and using the production model as its own oracle.
  • Slice evaluation results by customer segment, input type, and difficulty to expose regressions hidden by headline metrics.
  • Refresh datasets as products and traffic change, and retire stale examples.
  • Calibrate automated graders, including large-language-model judges, similarity metrics, and exact-match methods, against human gold sets; determine when an automated judge is reliable enough to gate on.
  • Report precision, recall, F1, confusion matrices, calibration, confidence intervals, and sample sizes needed to detect specified effects.
  • Partner with engineers responsible for the evaluation harness and continuous integration so datasets are run, and with machine-learning engineers on classifier features when data indicates feature problems.
  • Report to the Chief AI Officer and work across product and pipeline teams.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience running a human-labeling program end to end, including vendor selection, guideline authoring, quality-assurance sampling, and cost/quality trade-offs.
  • Experience with evaluation tooling.
  • Experience with data-labeling platforms.
  • Experience using a frontier model as a distillation or oracle source and explaining where that assumption breaks.

M/I Homes adopts Prophetic to scale land strategy across markets.

M/I Homes adopts Prophetic to scale land strategy across markets. The rollout is built to increase the number of sites that land teams can screen without adding headcount Article Summary. M/I Homes is deploying Prophetic to support key steps in its land evaluation process across multiple markets. The system brings parcel discovery, diligence inputs, yield estimates, and pipeline management into one platform to compress decision timelines. AI Summary M/I Homes Inc. has partnered with Prophetic, a land acquisition technology provider, to support key parts of its land evaluation process across multiple markets, the companies announced on Monday. The rollout brings parcel discovery, regulatory and environmental review, competitive and market intelligence, yield estimates and pipeline management into a single AI-native system used across M/I Homes' divisions. For large public builders, the core land challenge is volume and speed: evaluating more potential sites while reaching confident yes-or-no decisions faster, without adding headcount. The M/I Homes deployment is designed to increase the number of opportunities its teams can realistically vet and to shorten the diligence cycle. "At the end of the day, this is about how quickly we can turn data into a confident decision," said Ron Frissora, chief information officer at M/I Homes, in a statement. "Being able to evaluate more sites, eliminate dead ends earlier, and focus our teams on the right opportunities has a direct impact on how we grow." The announcement comes after Prophetic announced an organization-wide partnership with D.R. Horton in November. As more homebuilders embrace AI to streamline operations and boost efficiency, those that don't implement it risk falling behind their competitors. For regional private builders competing with public operators, leveraging technology to gain a competitive advantage could prove to be crucial. Why this matters for homebuilders. For builders under pressure to grow while managing risk, land is often the scarcest internal resource. Tools that compress weeks of zoning and feasibility work into minutes and increase the number of sites a team can screen may influence how aggressively builders can pursue new communities and respond to changing market conditions. Land acquisition has become a gating constraint on adding new housing supply. Much of the work still relies on manual checks of zoning codes, parcel records across multiple counties and information scattered among disconnected internal systems. That limits how many deals a local or national land team can realistically evaluate in a given month, and the constraint compounds across every division and market. Prophetic enables land teams to search by intended development type, surface-qualified parcels, and off-market opportunities across entire markets in seconds, instead of relying solely on broker networks and county GIS portals. For diligence and feasibility, the platform consolidates work that is typically spread across multiple tools. Land staff can interpret local zoning rules, generate preliminary site plans and track surrounding development activity. The platform is designed so that every value is verified and tied back to a source, supporting a defensible go/no-go decision without leaving the platform. Prophetic also centralizes deal tracking, analysis, and collaboration, including an executive dashboard with AI-enabled insights to enable quicker corporate-level decisions. As more parcels are evaluated and more decisions are logged, Prophetic builds an internal intelligence layer intended to make future evaluations more efficient.
