Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is required.
  • Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and hands-on problem-solving ability are required.
  • Proficiency in three-dimensional computer-aided design is required.
  • Experience designing precision mechanical components is required, with exposure to manufacturing processes such as injection molding, computer numerical control machining, additive manufacturing, or stamping.
  • The ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment is required.
  • A portfolio demonstrating relevant engineering projects, including computer-aided design work, prototypes, technical documentation, or other engineering experience, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Design, prototype, and validate mechanical and mechatronic subsystems for minimally invasive surgical devices.
  • Develop three-dimensional computer-aided design models, drawings, and assemblies, and review peer designs for performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Select materials and components appropriate for precision, miniaturized mechanisms.
  • Execute hands-on testing and experimentation to characterize performance and inform design decisions.
  • Partner with manufacturing to optimize designs for design for manufacturing and design for assembly and support design transfer.
  • Document development activities in accordance with medical device requirements, including design history, test reports, and technical documentation.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of existing products with a focus on quality, speed, and cost.
Desired Qualifications
  • Medical device experience is a plus, but not required.
  • SolidWorks experience is preferred within the required 3D computer-aided design proficiency.
