  • Have independently set up and run PCR reactions.
  • Have independently run agarose gels and interpreted the results.
  • Have independently troubleshot experiments when amplification did not work as expected.
  • Have real, hands-on experience working independently with DNA.
  • Be available for the fixed 12-week, on-site schedule of four hours per day, Monday through Friday, during the stated project term.
  • Be authorized to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Own an independent research project from experimental design through validation focused on DNA assembly.
  • Design DNA sequences, fragments, primers, and assembly strategies.
  • Set up and troubleshoot PCR.
  • Run and interpret agarose gels.
  • Purify DNA and prepare samples for sequencing.
  • Analyze sequencing results and alignments using tools such as Benchling.
  • Perform molecular cloning.
  • Use frontier AI tools such as Claude Code, Codex, and Biomni to reason through experimental design and troubleshoot results.
  • Make independent day-to-day experimental decisions and execute the experimental strategy in a BSL-1 laboratory.
Desired Qualifications
  • Optimize PCR conditions or perform techniques such as touchdown PCR.
  • Perform gel extraction and DNA purification.
  • Prepare DNA for sequencing and analyze sequencing results.
  • Perform sequence alignment or construct verification in Benchling or similar software.
  • Perform Gibson assembly, Golden Gate assembly, or restriction enzyme-based cloning.
