Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of an accredited medical assisting program is required.
  • Certification as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant through an accepted organization such as American Medical Technologists, the American Association of Medical Assistants, the National Health Career Association, the National Association for Health Professionals, or the National Center for Competency Testing is required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
  • The employee must be able to perform the listed standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, repetitive-motion, vision, respirator-use, and indoor-work requirements, including handling objects weighing approximately 50 pounds unassisted.
Responsibilities
  • Interview patients and measure and record vital signs, including pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height.
  • Record or input patient information into medical records and prepare treatment rooms for examinations.
  • Calibrate, clean, and complete scheduled maintenance of clinical and laboratory equipment in accordance with applicable requirements, with documentation.
  • Maintain and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information; document test and examination results.
  • Communicate the plan of care to patients and develop patient education materials as needed.
  • Maintain examination-room supplies, instruments, and cleanliness of the patient-care environment.
  • Support timely patient flow and assist with appointment and referral scheduling based on urgency and availability.
  • Screen patients for appropriate information and provide patient education related to diagnosis and treatment.
  • Observe, record, and report patients' physical and psychosocial conditions and their reactions to medications and treatments.
  • Respond to and triage telephone calls, call in physician-ordered prescriptions or other orders as appropriate, and instruct patients regarding treatment or medication as ordered.
  • Monitor and distribute medications, including samples and controlled substances.
  • Triage patients and prepare them for physician examinations and procedures.
  • Assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments as necessary.
  • Instruct patients in the collection of samples and performance of tests.
  • Administer prescribed treatments and tests as ordered by the physician.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of patient-care experience is preferred.
