Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, electronics engineering, or another engineering or technical discipline, or eight years of additional relevant experience in lieu of education.
  • At least two years of experience in information technology technical support, help desk, or system administration.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the role, including lifting equipment up to 50 pounds and performing related movement and access tasks.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain a Public Trust Suitability clearance.
  • Must meet updated identification requirements or be willing and able to update identification forms promptly to complete the suitability process.
  • Candidates may be required to provide proof of current facility-specific vaccinations and testing, including yearly flu vaccination, tuberculosis testing with a negative result, and vaccination records or titer testing for measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and/or varicella.
  • Must be willing to travel for temporary surge support, potentially for 12 consecutive days.
Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, test, and troubleshoot computer systems and equipment to support the Government and ensure optimal operation and user satisfaction.
  • Provide remote and desk-side technical support, respond to information technology support tickets, and diagnose and repair hardware and software components.
  • Set up and maintain user accounts, interface with other software applications, compile reports, and respond to customer requests.
  • Maintain Active Directory and other system accounts, support connectivity and client applications, and configure and support local and wide area network services.
  • Monitor open tickets in the VA ServiceNow customer incident ticketing system to ensure adherence to business processes, and report discrepancies with proposed corrective actions for approval before implementation.
  • Handle electronic components carefully and follow safety precautions to prevent injuries or equipment damage.
  • Use debugging protocols and processes.
  • Troubleshoot customer problems and issues and implement corrective actions quickly.
  • Facilitate equipment returns, deployments, unboxing, inventorying, and verification.
  • Stand and move throughout the work area for prolonged periods.
  • Listen actively to understand customer needs and concerns before responding.
  • Explain technical issues in simple, customer-friendly language, both verbally and in writing.
  • Show understanding and patience with frustrated or non-technical customers.
  • Develop trust and rapport with customers and colleagues.
  • Represent the company courteously and confidently in customer interactions.
  • Anticipate customer needs before they escalate into issues.
  • Seek feedback to improve personal performance and customer experience.
  • Take ownership of resolving issues from start to finish.
  • Coordinate temporary surge support and associated travel arrangements in advance when requested.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience conducting routine system administration tasks and logging data in system administration logs.
  • Knowledge of debugging protocols and processes.
  • Knowledge of information technology principles and practices, proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, and a basic understanding of system administration in a Windows environment.
