Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • At least ten years of experience in the commercial construction industry.
  • Experience frequently estimating projects up to $15M in sectors such as healthcare, financial, and light industrial, with larger projects estimated occasionally.
  • Ability to manage more than two projects at one time.
  • Proficiency in project estimation software and Microsoft Office, and blueprint-reading ability.
  • Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • A valid driver's license and ability to travel to various job sites.
  • Preferred Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction Management or a similar major.
  • Knowledge of estimating or managing commercial construction projects.
  • Ability to travel as needed to participate in pre-bid site visits, training, seminars, task team meetings, and similar activities.
  • Expanding knowledge of construction details.
  • Self-organization and management skills.
  • Ability to use construction plans and industry experience to prepare and analyze project budgets.
  • Ability to balance workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and complete project cost forecasts by reviewing drawings and specifications, gathering details, compiling data, and attending site visits before estimate submission, including a CSI division breakdown of costs and a written assumptions and clarifications document.
  • Consider raw materials, labor, equipment, tools, and transportation in estimates.
  • Help determine the resources needed for projects based on cost estimates and budgetary constraints.
  • Analyze project completion timelines.
  • Develop and publish complete bid packages for trade partners and vendors, including scopes of work, alternates, allowances, and breakouts.
  • Qualify trade partner and vendor bids and level costs as needed to ensure complete scope coverage.
  • Review costs internally and externally to support client satisfaction and successful project awards.
  • Lead estimating efforts for traditional Design-bid-build projects, including hard bids and general contractor fees.
  • Assist with mentoring and leadership development of interns, coordinators, and assistant estimators.
  • Participate in professional organizations focused on contractors and subcontractors, such as Associated Builders and Contractors.
