About the Job

Requirements

  • Strong enterprise infrastructure background with a Wintel core, including Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, certificates, and operational discipline.
  • Demonstrable hands-on Azure production experience with identity, role-based access control, and Entra integration; virtual networks, VPN/ExpressRoute, and Private Link/Endpoints; Azure Monitor/Log Analytics, backup/disaster recovery patterns, and policy/guardrails.
  • Working knowledge of AWS production environments, including accounts/VPC, security groups, IAM basics, and CloudWatch.
  • Strong troubleshooting and incident leadership across operating system and network layers, with confidence working with vendors and escalations.
  • Scripting and automation mindset, with strong PowerShell; Bash or Python is beneficial.
  • Ability to create architecture artefacts, including reference designs, diagrams, standards, and architecture decision records.

Responsibilities

  • Own the target-state hybrid cloud architecture and 12–24-month roadmap, aligning security, resilience, and cost requirements.
  • Define reference architectures and standards for landing zones, network patterns, identity patterns, logging/monitoring, backup/disaster recovery, and environment separation.
  • Lead the design and implementation of secure cloud networking, including VNets/VPCs, routing, VPN, ExpressRoute/Direct Connect, Private Link/Endpoints, load balancers, and WAF where needed.
  • Own cloud governance foundations, including subscriptions/accounts, management groups, role-based access control, naming/tagging, logging, budgets, and policy guardrails.
  • Ensure cloud platforms, services, and workloads remain on supported and secure versions; implement drift detection and lifecycle management.
  • Establish platform observability using Azure Monitor/Log Analytics/App Insights, CloudWatch, and OpenTelemetry where used; improve alert quality and operational readiness.
  • Build and maintain backup/disaster recovery posture with tested recovery time and recovery point objectives, runbooks, and regular restore/disaster recovery exercises.
  • Drive FinOps discipline through cost allocation, tagging compliance, rightsizing, reservations/savings plans, and cost anomaly detection.
  • Ensure security controls are in place and effective, including least privilege, secure baselines, encryption, key management, and vulnerability/patch posture.
  • Own onboarding of data/log sources and integration with the SIEM, such as Microsoft Sentinel or Splunk, in partnership with Security.
  • Lead incident response for infrastructure/cloud events, including triage, investigation, reporting, root-cause analysis, and implementation of preventative controls and guardrails.
  • Manage, document, and audit configuration changes; champion repeatable-by-design changes and reduce configuration drift.
  • Provide technical leadership across core infrastructure services, including Windows Server, AD DS, DNS/DHCP, certificates/PKI, and integration with Entra ID.
  • Guide virtualisation/storage teams, including VMware/Hyper-V and SAN/storage, towards cloud-aligned standards for resilience, security, and lifecycle.
  • Act as the technical authority for infrastructure and hybrid cloud, lead technical decisions, and drive outcomes.
  • Mentor and upskill engineers on modern cloud infrastructure practices; run knowledge sessions and codify standards into reusable patterns.
  • Provide input during design and architectural discussions with DevOps and software teams; unblock delivery with clear, pragmatic guidance.

Desired Qualifications

  • Preferred certifications: AZ-104, AZ-305, or AZ-500.
  • Conditional Access and privileged access controls (PIM), break-glass patterns, and Zero Trust principles.
  • Azure Policy/AWS Config, Defender for Cloud/Security Hub, GuardDuty, and landing zone governance tooling.
  • AWS Control Tower, IAM Identity Center, and CloudFormation (read/maintain).
  • Infrastructure-as-Code familiarity with Terraform/Bicep; preferred but not essential.
  • Exposure to containers/AKS/EKS and CI/CD concepts as an enabling partner.
  • Experience supporting web hosting environments, including CDN/WAF, TLS/PKI, and caching/performance.
