About the job

Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 15 years of relevant software engineering experience, including designing and operating large-scale distributed systems, setting technical direction, and delivering complex infrastructure across multiple teams.
  • Deep experience with web crawling or closely related discovery, indexing, or ingestion infrastructure, including distributed scheduling, stateful services, storage, and high-throughput data processing.
  • Strong hands-on engineering and system design skills, with the ability to move between architecture, implementation, performance analysis, and production debugging.
  • Experience building batch or streaming pipelines and reasoning about consistency, retries, duplicate processing, backpressure, and recovery.
  • A track record of improving throughput, latency, resource efficiency, or operational reliability.
  • Experience delivering data platforms for research, machine learning, search, or other demanding technical users, and translating evolving requirements into clear interfaces and measurable engineering outcomes.
  • Strong technical communication and leadership through influence across engineering, product, research, and governance teams.
Responsibilities
  • Architect and scale data acquisition infrastructure that powers foundation models, beginning with code and STEM data for Nemotron.
  • Build systems to discover valuable sources, crawl the open web at scale, and deliver reliable, high-quality data to training pipelines.
  • Own the architecture of a unified platform covering source discovery, URL indexing, crawl frontiers, predictive ranking, scheduling, distributed fetching, and ingestion, bringing existing infrastructure to pretraining scale and extending it to additional model families, modalities, and acquisition workflows.
  • Lead architecture reviews and critical implementation work, mentor engineers, and help build the team.
  • Work with storage and scaling teams to design scalable frontier storage and queueing systems with high-throughput writes, efficient lookups, deduplication, and scheduling based on data quality, diversity, and freshness; build a continuous discovery loop that extracts links and feeds candidates back into the crawl frontier.
  • Develop a shared crawl execution layer that fetches reliably and politely at scale, handles dynamic websites, and controls resource use.
  • Build extensible pipelines for open-web, licensed, and partner content, including text, PDFs, code repositories, and multimodal assets; define stable source-connector interfaces so teams can add sources without rebuilding the platform.
  • Partner with parsing and curation teams to preserve valuable code, math, and structured content, and improve accepted data yield.
  • Implement provenance and policy enforcement with legal, privacy, security, and data governance partners; translate approved publisher preferences, opt-outs, licensing terms, and use restrictions into auditable controls that follow data downstream.
  • Own production readiness, including capacity planning, observability, fault tolerance, recovery, and cost efficiency; instrument the pipeline end to end and set service objectives for throughput, freshness, reliability, and meeting training cutoffs.
  • Work with research and product teams to evaluate internal crawls and external datasets through comparable pilots; deliver reproducible data releases that connect source coverage and processing quality to controlled training experiments.
  • Coordinate dependencies across teams and make tradeoffs between immediate data delivery and long-term platform development.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience architecting a web-wide crawl platform, scaling crawl frontier storage, or consolidating multiple acquisition systems into shared infrastructure.
  • Direct experience supplying foundation-model pretraining data, including targeted discovery, quality-aware crawl ranking, and acquisition of code or technical content.
  • Experience implementing publisher consent, training-use opt-outs, dataset licensing controls, or provenance infrastructure at scale.
  • Background with browser-based or agentic data collection, programmable extraction, and sandboxed environments for tool-use data or post-training evaluation.
  • Experience onboarding licensed or multimodal datasets, building reusable partner integrations, or delivering streaming feeds with low latency for retrieval and grounding.

About the company

NVIDIA designs the chips and software that power artificial intelligence and sells complete data center systems to cloud providers, AI labs, and other businesses, along with GeForce graphics cards for gamers. Its GPUs, chips that perform thousands of calculations at once, became the main hardware for AI after researchers used them to train the AlexNet image-recognition model in 2012. NVIDIA connects many GPUs with its own processors and networking gear into servers and rack-sized computers, and developers program them through its CUDA software. These systems bring in most of its sales, and it also makes chips for cars and robots. Jensen Huang co-founded NVIDIA in 1993, and it is based in Santa Clara, California.

What believers are saying

  • AI demand is still surging: data center sales rose 117% to $89 billion in the quarter ending July 2026.
  • Stock grants are worth more: shares hit a record in October 2026, up 28% for the year.
  • Engineering dominates hiring: 1,722 of NVIDIA's 2,686 job listings in October 2026 were in engineering.

What critics are saying

  • Big buyers are hedging: Meta's February 2026 agreement covers 6 gigawatts of AMD chips.
  • Financing its buyers is getting harder: lenders pushed back on NVIDIA's $500 billion chip-backed loan plan in October 2026.
  • Staff described long hours: Bloomberg's August 2024 interviews reported seven-day weeks, late nights and shouting matches.

What makes NVIDIA unique

  • Rivals must match its software too: over 7.5 million developers use CUDA and other NVIDIA tools to program its chips.
  • The CEO has a broad direct staff: Jensen Huang says over 60 people report to him, without one-on-ones.
  • People rarely leave: NVIDIA's yearly staff turnover is 3.7%, versus a 21.9% average across the tech industry.

Nvidia shares rise 0.72% to $219.52 as Vera CPUs launch on Oracle Cloud

Nvidia is pushing deeper into AI spending, with its Vera CPUs and Vera Rubin NVL72 systems now generally available on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. The company announced the rollout on October 27. Each NVL72 rack links 72 GPUs. Oracle also plans an eight-GPU HGX Rubin NVL8 system for customers running x86 applications. AI agents need CPUs to run code, retrieve information, and execute tools, giving Nvidia a route beyond GPUs. The planned expansion reaches multiple gigawatts. Nvidia shares rose 0.72% to $219.52 at 9:40 EDT on October 28, giving it a market capitalisation of $5.29 trillion.

Nvidia releases free Nemotron 3.5 Transcribe, a 30B-parameter model for 40 languages

Nvidia on Wednesday released Nemotron 3.5 Transcribe, a free, open-weight model that transcribes audio in up to 40 languages. It also launched version 2 of Granary, its open-source speech dataset. Nvidia says the model translates 31 languages to and from English, handles recordings up to an hour long, and tells up to eight speakers apart. It claims the model beats rivals on benchmarks, including Hugging Face's Open ASR Leaderboard. The tools target developers building apps for business meetings and medical transcription. They can tune apps to an industry's jargon in each language. The model works only with recorded audio, not live streams. At 30 billion parameters, Transcribe can run on a single chip, Nvidia says. The release follows Mistral's Voxtral 3, ElevenLabs' Realtime, and Salesforce's Launa-Omni.

Jensen Huang bet Nvidia's last cash on an untested chip in 1997 — now it's worth $5.3T

In 1997, with Nvidia weeks from insolvency, chief executive officer Jensen Huang ordered mass production of the RIVA 128, a graphics chip that existed only in a simulator. He told the Acquired podcast the company had "about six months of cash left." Taping out, the step of sending a design to a factory, is a point of no return. Huang spent about half the company's remaining cash on an emulator to test the design virtually, then skipped prototyping and went straight to TSMC. Nvidia cut staff from about 100 to 40 and survived on a $5 million investment from Sega. The RIVA 128 sold roughly a million units in its first four months, paving the way for the 1999 IPO. Nvidia is now worth about $5.3 trillion.

Nvidia's $3B Meta stake fuels circular AI economy fears as Meta seeks $95B

Nvidia is buying $3 billion of shares in Meta, one of its biggest customers, as Meta moves to raise up to $95 billion in equity to fund its AI spending. Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom have agreed to buy as much as $5 billion of the shares between them. Nigel Green, chief executive officer of deVere Group, called it a sign of a "circular AI economy" in which chipmakers buy shares in the companies that buy their chips. "Sooner or later, someone outside the circle has to pick up the bill," he said. Meta will start with $35 billion of underwritten offerings, followed by a $60 billion at-the-market sale from early 2027. Its projected 2026 capital expenditure is $135 billion to $145 billion. Nvidia put $100 billion into OpenAI in 2025 and has joined 121 funding rounds this year, up from 13 in 2022.
