Workday Functional Consultant

We are seeking an experienced Workday Functional Consultant to support the design, optimisation, and delivery of the process improvements within the context of the H2R process transformation. Working closely with HR, Technology, Programme stakeholders, and third-party partners, the successful consultant will provide functional leadership across the H2R workstream and Workday platform, ensuring solutions are aligned to business requirements, enterprise architecture standards, future operating model objectives, and the H2R end-to-end process scope.

This role requires a strong blend of functional expertise, solution architecture capability, stakeholder management, and hands-on Workday configuration experience.

Essential Experience

• Extensive experience delivering Workday solutions in large, complex organisations, importantly in post go-live optimisation programmes
• Proven background as a: 
  • Workday Functional Consultant
  • Workday Lead Consultant
  • Workday Solution Architect
  • Workday Functional Architect
• Deep knowledge of Workday Core configuration and architecture.
• Strong understanding of Workday security frameworks and standard business processes
• Experience facilitating stakeholder workshops and requirements gathering sessions.
• Excellent documentation and functional design skills.
• Experience working within Agile and/or Waterfall delivery environments.

Key Responsibilities

Functional Leadership

• Act as the functional solution lead for relevant Workday components within the H2R process

• Provide expert guidance on Workday best practices, design principles, and configuration standards.
• Translate business and HR requirements into scalable Workday solutions.
• Challenge and improve existing processes to maximise value from the Workday platform (utilising Success Plans & Functional Review outputs).

Solution Design

• Design end-to-end Workday solutions across key functional areas including: 
  • Core HCM, Absence, Recruitment, Talent, Benefits & Comp
  • Organisations and Supervisory Structures
  • Business Processes
• Develop functional designs, solution documentation, process flows, and architectural artefacts.
• Ensure solutions meet governance, compliance, risk, and security requirements.

Delivery & Change

• Support ongoing optimisation programme, enhancements, and transformation initiatives.

• Lead workshops with business stakeholders and HR SMEs.

• Provide functional leadership within H2R workstreams, working with the Workstream Lead and Project Manager to support delivery.

• Work with Process Experts and Business Analysts to translate agreed future-state processes and requirements into scalable Workday solution designs.

• Provide functional assurance and issue resolution support across testing, UAT, defect triage, and deployment activities.

• Support adoption readiness by ensuring functional designs, configuration decisions, and impacts are clearly documented and communicated.

• Support optimisation activity around Workday bi-annual updates.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Build strong relationships with JM and Workday technology teams 
• Present solution recommendations, risks, and impacts to governance forums.
• Mentor internal Workday resources and capability teams where appropriate.

Integration & Data Collaboration

• Work closely with Integration and Technical teams to define data and interface requirements.
• Support data migration, validation, and reconciliation activities.
• Ensure alignment between Workday configuration and downstream systems.

Role Interfaces

• Partner with the Workstream Lead by providing functional solution leadership that supports end-to-end workstream design, testing, deployment, transition, and readiness.

• Partner with Workday Process Experts and Business Analysts by translating agreed process designs, requirements, and operating model decisions into Workday solution options and configuration decisions.

• Partner with the Project Manager by providing functional input, estimates, risks, status updates, and issue resolution support within the agreed delivery plan.

• Partner with internal Business Analysts, enabling them to learn through this engagement and support JM’s Workday solution going forwards.
