About the job

Requirements
  • Staff+ level product engineer with deep, current hands-on ability, including writing and reviewing code daily.
  • Has built LLM-powered product features and has production evaluation experience, including designing evaluation sets, defining metrics, and wiring evaluations into continuous integration, monitoring, or release gating.
  • Can own a full-stack feature end-to-end rather than only one layer.
  • Has previously led a team's day-to-day work as a tech lead, project lead, or de facto anchor, keeping the team focused and providing growth-oriented feedback.
  • Partners with product management and go-to-market collaborators to shape solutions and push back on scope and sequencing rather than only taking specifications.
  • Can instrument pipelines, trace model calls, and build feedback loops to surface problems before users do.
  • Can work across disciplines and learn domains such as healthcare, life sciences, and data systems.
  • Can work in a fast-paced, evolving environment with high ownership and autonomy.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate across teams and with customers.
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and deploy agentic AI systems that power web experiences and automate clinical workflows.
  • Own the full production evaluation lifecycle by defining success criteria, building evaluation datasets, authoring metrics, and integrating evaluations into continuous integration, monitoring, or release gating.
  • Instrument AI systems for observability by tracing large language model calls, monitoring output quality, detecting regressions, and building tooling to provide visibility into production behavior.
  • Architect and optimize full-stack applications across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and data pipelines.
  • Partner with product, founders, and customers to shape solutions and challenge scope and sequencing rather than simply executing specifications.
  • Help establish engineering processes, architecture, and best practices.
  • Participate in customer conversations to understand workflows and improve the product.
Desired Qualifications
  • Small startup experience, including seed- or Series A-stage companies, small teams, or high-ambiguity environments.
  • Experience being the senior person on a junior team and raising its standards.
  • Genuine interest in biology or life sciences.
  • Experience with machine-learning evaluation frameworks or large language model observability tools such as LangSmith, Braintrust, Weights & Biases, or Honeyhive.
  • Familiarity with statistical approaches to model evaluation, including confidence intervals, human-in-the-loop review, and A/B testing.
  • Experience building agentic workflows or multi-step AI pipelines.
