About the job

Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a closely related technical field plus two years of experience, or a Master's degree with zero years of experience.
  • Hands-on experience designing and building enterprise-grade data pipelines, integration workflows, and data products in complex, multi-source environments.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Python for data engineering tasks, including pipeline development, transformation logic, data validation, and automation.
  • Strong SQL skills across modern analytical and transactional databases, including ANSI SQL and platform-specific dialects.
  • Demonstrated experience with cloud data platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP and modern data stack components such as dbt, Spark, Airflow, Databricks, Snowflake, or equivalents.
  • Experience developing ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as Informatica, Talend, Apache NiFi, and cloud-native services such as AWS Glue or Azure Data Factory.
  • Experience implementing master data management, metadata management, and data cataloging solutions to support data lineage, accessibility, and compliance.
  • Experience setting and enforcing standards for API development and data integration using REST, GraphQL, or OData, including integration through microservices architectures.
  • Experience designing logical, physical, and conceptual data models using tools such as Erwin, PowerDesigner, or dbt.
  • Ability to define a problem space, drive solutions to completion, and remain accountable for outcomes.
  • Ability to evaluate the broader solution landscape and choose fit-for-purpose tools and approaches.
  • Ability to build explainable, defensible, and improvable models, and apply the same standard to others' work.
  • Ability to earn the confidence of scientists, engineers, and quality professionals through credible, clear, and useful work.
  • Ability to work on high-stakes problems and handle ambiguity.
Responsibilities
  • Design and implement scalable, robust data ingestion pipelines connecting CMC and manufacturing source systems—including MES, process historians, LIMS, QMS, ERP platforms, and instrument data sources—to centralized and federated data environments.
  • Build connectors, adapters, and integration layers to handle the heterogeneous data formats, protocols, and latency profiles found in pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.
  • Support batch and real-time or streaming data patterns, selecting appropriate architectures based on use-case requirements.
  • Develop and maintain harmonized data models and ontologies that bring consistency to CMC and manufacturing data across sites, systems, and modalities.
  • Perform semantic mapping to align source-system fields, units, and identifiers with enterprise data standards and scientific meaning.
  • Collaborate with process scientists, analytical chemists, and manufacturing engineers to ensure data models accurately reflect domain reality.
  • Implement automated data-quality controls, validation frameworks, and anomaly-detection mechanisms across pipeline layers.
  • Build and maintain data-lineage documentation and metadata infrastructure to enable traceability from source system to AI model input.
  • Establish pipeline observability practices, including monitoring, alerting, and SLA tracking, to ensure production data-product reliability.
  • Support data-governance practices aligned with GxP requirements, 21 CFR Part 11, and AbbVie data standards.
  • Architect and deliver governed, versioned, reusable data products for AI/ML consumption, including feature stores, curated datasets, and vector-ready data layers for RAG and LLM applications.
  • Partner with data scientists, ML engineers, and process modelers to understand model data requirements and translate them into reliable, scalable data infrastructure.
  • Eliminate data bottlenecks by addressing root causes structurally to accelerate AI program delivery.
  • Contribute to the design and evolution of PDST's cloud-based data platform, including lakehouse architecture, data cataloging, access control, and compute infrastructure.
  • Write and maintain infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks for data systems.
  • Support onboarding of new CMC data domains and manufacturing sites to the platform, ensuring consistent application of standards and patterns.
  • Provide operational support for production data pipelines and maintain uptime and data-freshness commitments.
  • Influence technical decision-making without formal authority through scientific rigor, transparent methodology, and demonstrated business impact.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or other regulated life-sciences manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with GxP data principles, 21 CFR Part 11 compliance, or data-integrity requirements in regulated industries.
  • Prior exposure to manufacturing source systems such as MES, process historians (e.g., OSIsoft PI/AVEVA), LIMS, QMS, or ERP platforms.
  • Experience building data infrastructure for AI/ML programs, including feature-engineering pipelines, model-training datasets, or vector/embedding data layers for RAG architectures.

AbbVie wins FDA nod for at-home Skyrizi starts in Crohn's; sales boost seen after 60-90 days

AbbVie won US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval on October 23 for an at-home start to Skyrizi in adults with moderately to severely active Crohn's disease. Patients previously had to begin with intravenous infusions; they can now take the first doses at home with an on-body injector. By Week 12, 74% of patients new to advanced therapy reached clinical remission, against 27% on placebo. Johnson & Johnson's rival Tremfya won similar approval about 19 months earlier. Chief commercial officer Jeff Stewart said full paid access "will probably take 60 or 90 days" because insurers must approve the regimen. Sales impact should therefore come mostly after the fourth quarter. AbbVie reports third-quarter results on October 30. It guides for revenue of about $17.2 billion; Skyrizi's franchise sold $17.562 billion in 2025.

Retirees swap Social Security for 5 dividend stocks yielding up to 6.64%

Retirees looking for income beyond Social Security are turning to dividend stocks. The 2027 cost-of-living adjustment is tracking toward 3.3%, and five companies from different industries were screened for dividend safety first, then yield. Verizon yields 6.64% and Altria 6.17%. Verizon's free cash flow guidance of $21.94 billion to $22.14 billion covers its roughly $11.76 billion annual dividend. Altria's payout is about 79% of the low end of its 2026 earnings guidance. Realty Income pays monthly at a 5.99% yield and has raised its dividend 115 consecutive quarters. Enbridge yields 5.95%. AbbVie yields 2.48%, but its quarterly dividend has grown from $0.40 in 2013 to $1.73 in 2026. Risks include satellite competition for Verizon, falling cigarette volumes for Altria, and currency swings for Enbridge.

Merck and AbbVie shares jump 39% and 24% in 2026 as dividend picks for a decade

Healthcare stocks are rebounding in 2026, led by Merck and AbbVie. Merck shares have climbed 39% and AbbVie's 24%, against about 12% for the S&P 500. Merck's second-quarter revenue rose 5% to $16.6 billion, beating Wall Street estimates. Keytruda sales hit $8.4 billion, though the drug will likely lose patent exclusivity by 2028. A subcutaneous version, Keytruda Qlex, may help retain market share. Merck's forward dividend yield is 2.3%. AbbVie's revenue grew 10.2% to almost $17 billion, with adjusted earnings per share up 22.9% to $3.65. Skyrizi and Rinvoq sales each rose about 24%, and neither faces US competition until 2033 and 2037 respectively. AbbVie has raised its dividend for 54 straight years, including its time as part of Abbott Laboratories.
