Requirements
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience in hardware design, design validation, hardware testing, mechanical system reliability, and durability testing
  • Excellent grasp of engineering fundamentals and first principles
  • Proficient in designing mechanical equipment, fixtures, and tooling in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA)
  • Some experience with programming and data analysis (Arduino, C++, Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, VeriStand, etc.)
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical tools (voltmeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies)
  • Must be hands-on (assembly, fabrication/modification, instrumentation, wiring)
  • Strong sense of ownership, taking full accountability for assigned tasks, with the ability to adapt and change direction swiftly. Collaborative mindset, recognizing the importance of teamwork within Tesla, and exhibiting a willingness to seek assistance and provide support when necessary
  • A commitment to safety around high-speed rotating equipment, high-voltage equipment, and high-temperature fluids
Responsibilities
  • Design mechanical and electrical hardware for test equipment which facilitates the development of drive unit components (stators, rotors, gears, bearings, pumps, and structures)
  • Analyze and/or simulate components to ensure the reliability and safety of test fixtures (FEA, hand calculations, MATLAB, etc.)
  • Build and debug both mechanical and electrical hardware in the lab
  • Work with design engineers to understand boundary conditions and failure modes, and develop novel tester designs to further improve testing capabilities
  • Work directly with reliability and design engineers for test planning activities (test scheduling, prioritization, specifications, etc.)
  • Be involved with general test equipment maintenance and lab expansions
  • Define test methods and measurement procedures, as well as set up controls. Work with cross-functional teams to develop pass/fail criteria
  • Work closely in the lab with technicians to fabricate, install, and validate new test equipment, as well as repair and debug complex issues with existing equipment
  • Write and maintain standard operating procedures for test equipment. Train technicians on new equipment and incorporate user feedback (design for usability, safety, ergonomics)
  • Create engineering drawings and work with internal and external prototype shops to get parts fabricated for new and existing test systems

Tesla's Q2 earnings miss 38% as Wedbush maintains $600 target, seeing 80% upside on AI bet

Tesla trades at $332.81 whilst Wedbush's Dan Ives maintains a $600 price target, implying 80% upside by valuing the company as an AI-robotics firm rather than a carmaker. Tesla missed Q2 non-GAAP EPS estimates by 38%, posting $0.33 against expectations of $0.54. Revenue of $28.24 billion beat forecasts by 7.1%, but operating expenses surged 47% year-over-year to $4.35 billion whilst capital expenditure jumped 142% to $5.79 billion. Free cash flow turned negative at $1.09 billion and operating margin collapsed to 1.4%. The stock has fallen 18% over the past month, trading below both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages. Record deliveries of 480,126 vehicles and a 56% increase in Full Self-Driving subscriptions to 1.48 million failed to offset the profit deterioration. Ives applies a tech-like multiple of approximately 214 times estimated 2026 earnings, projecting a $2 trillion to $3 trillion market capitalisation as autonomous and robotics businesses scale.

Florida governor DeSantis backs Tesla Cybercab after SunTrax testing facility tour

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis endorsed Tesla's Cybercab during a tour of the SunTrax testing facility in Auburndale. The two-seat electric robotaxi, designed for unsupervised autonomy without a steering wheel or pedals, was praised by DeSantis as "clearly very beneficial." DeSantis rode in the vehicle on the test track, where it successfully navigated simulated hazards including a child in the street and traffic incidents. He emphasised that safety remains the top priority before wider deployment. Florida maintains some of the most permissive autonomous vehicle regulations in the US, allowing fully autonomous vehicles to operate on public roads without a human operator present. Tesla describes the Cybercab's early production ramp as a slow "S-curve" expected to accelerate later this year, targeting up to 2 million units annually long-term.

Tesla's Cybercab robotaxi gets built-in Starlink dish for seamless connectivity

Tesla has integrated Starlink satellite internet directly into its Cybercab autonomous vehicle, the company announced on Monday. The integration features a square cutout in the roofline housing the satellite equipment. Elon Musk said passengers will be able to watch live sports in 4K, films, games, or use productivity apps whilst riding. The technology will help address gaps in cellular coverage as Tesla expands its robotaxi service. During Tesla's second-quarter earnings call, Musk explained that Starlink connectivity is crucial to prevent robotaxis from becoming stranded in areas without cellular coverage. The integration represents another example of collaboration between Musk's companies, which also includes Tesla using SpaceX's Grok AI assistant and SpaceX purchasing Tesla products.

SpaceX to consume 75% of Terafab's 1 terawatt AI compute capacity, Musk says

Elon Musk said SpaceX will use approximately 75% of output from Tesla's new Terafab semiconductor facility in Grimes County, Texas, with the remaining 25% going to Tesla's Optimus robot. The facility targets 1 terawatt of annual AI compute capacity at full scale. Musk said the compute output would support SpaceX's "AI spacecraft". He noted that 3,000 jobs announced for the facility represent only phase one of ten planned phases. Tesla shares rebound 6% as retail investors pour in $372M to buy the dip

Tesla shares surged approximately 6% last week as retail investors bought the dip, injecting about $372 million into the stock over five trading days compared to $121 million the previous week, according to J.P. Morgan data cited by Barron's. This helped stabilise the stock after a 24% decline over three weeks, including an 18% drop following second-quarter earnings.
