Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Medical assistant certification such as Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant is preferred.
  • At least one year of experience working as a medical assistant is required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
  • Exceptional customer service skills are required.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and a friendly, compassionate disposition are required.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to maintain effective, organized systems for timely patient flow are required.
  • The ability to work independently or as part of a team is required.
  • Dedication to maintaining the confidentiality of patient records is required.
Responsibilities
  • Verify patient information by interviewing patients, reviewing or recording medical history, taking vital signs, and confirming the purpose of visits or treatments.
  • Support patient care by assisting providers during examinations, preparing specimens, performing basic on-site laboratory tests, disposing of contaminated supplies, sterilizing medical instruments, authorizing drug refills as directed, calling prescriptions into pharmacies, removing sutures, and changing dressings.
  • Enter patients' vital statistics and information such as medications, test results, radiology, and laboratory orders into the Electronic Health Record, EMA.
  • Update and file medical records and insurance reports.
  • Assist during medical examinations as allowable by law.
  • Perform general office duties such as answering telephones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments when indicated by the provider.
  • Complete required administrative tasks, reporting, and recordkeeping entries at the end of each day.
  • Return patient calls by the end of the day.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Some college education is preferred.
  • Dermatology experience is strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is preferred.
  • Experience with EMA is a plus.
