Alaska Communications becomes authorized reseller with Starlink.

Alaska Communications becomes authorized reseller with Starlink. October 14, 2026 ANCHORAGE, Alaska-(BUSINESS WIRE)-Alaska Communications, a leading provider of mission and life-critical communications infrastructure in Alaska, has finalized an agreement to become an authorized reseller of Starlink, a satellite internet service engineered and operated by SpaceX. The agreement allows Alaska Communications to resell Starlink's Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite services to business customers, providing an additional solution for high-speed coverage or network redundancy. "This opportunity is transformative for Alaska and for organizations in critical industries where downtime can disrupt essential services," said Dale Knipp, chief revenue officer, Alaska Communications. "Adding Starlink to our portfolio of advanced business solutions marks a pivotal step forward in how we serve Alaska's organizations by empowering them to operate with greater resilience, reliability and confidence as they deliver for the customers who depend on them." Alaska's remoteness, lack of road systems and challenging weather make it difficult to build and maintain traditional telecommunication networks. Industries dependent on remote operations, like energy, mining, tourism, transportation, education and healthcare, will benefit from near-continuous connectivity anywhere in Alaska. Even organizations located in urban centers are not immune to network disruptions. A satellite backup as a complement to fiber of fixed wireless service acts as a failover, providing an additional layer of network resilience. Organizations purchasing Starlink through Alaska Communications will receive professional installation by highly trained technicians, Alaska-based customer service and technical support, a customer facing portal to view and manage terminals, and integrated billing with other Alaska Communications services. Nominate a youth hero: Summer of Heroes returns for 2026. May 05, 2026 May 5, 2026 - Across Alaska, young people are quietly making their communities stronger. They are organizing service projects, supporting neighbors, standing up for others and stepping in where help is needed most. Alaska Communications is inviting Alaskans to help recognize these young leaders through its Summer of Heroes program, which celebrates youth who demonstrate compassion, initiative and a commitment to helping others. Alaska has received final approval for over $629 million in federal funding under the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment programme, bringing its total BEAD allocation to more than $1 billion. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration approved the state's proposal to expand high-speed internet access across Alaska. The funding, managed through the Alaska Broadband Grant Program, represents the largest broadband investment in the state's history. Projects will deploy a mix of fibre, wireless, satellite and hybrid technologies to connect 46,192 homes and small businesses. The BEAD programme, established under the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, mandates minimum broadband speeds of 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload to unserved and underserved communities. Alaska faces particularly complex connectivity challenges due to its terrain and remoteness.
