Requirements
  • Be an engineering student at the sophomore, junior, or senior level.
  • Have familiarity with Thiele/Small parameters and loudspeaker design.
  • Have programming experience with MATLAB, Simulink, LabVIEW, Python, or similar tools.
  • Have knowledge of signal processing and frequency- and time-domain analysis.
  • Have experience designing passive crossover networks.
  • Have familiarity with thermal sciences, heat transfer, or fluid dynamics.
  • Have CAD experience and an interest in mechanical design.
  • Have hands-on experience with woodworking, hand tools, soldering, wiring, or building things.
Responsibilities
  • Construct and modify prototype loudspeaker systems.
  • Perform acoustical, electrical, mechanical, thermal, and materials testing.
  • Design and build new test systems, including hardware, software, data acquisition, and measurement setups.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair existing test equipment and systems.
  • Solder, wire, assemble components, and make mechanical repairs.
  • Assemble loudspeaker cabinets and move loudspeaker systems between test rooms and facilities.
  • Perform acoustic measurements using microphones, anechoic chambers, impedance measurement systems, and other specialized equipment.
  • Set up experiments and develop ways to measure items without an obvious measurement method.
  • Analyze acoustic, electrical, mechanical, and electromagnetic test data.
  • Use simulation tools to predict and understand loudspeaker performance.
  • Troubleshoot unexpected test results and determine their root causes.
  • Create and modify mechanical designs using computer-aided design.
  • Produce mechanical drawings and documentation.
  • Support product development, engineering validation, and industrialization activities.
  • Research electro-acoustic technologies and investigate new approaches to loudspeaker design.
  • Research international standards and industry validation methods.
  • Use programming and data-analysis tools to automate measurements, process data, and make engineering decisions.
Desired Qualifications
  • Have experience with live sound reinforcement, public address systems, DJ equipment, mixers, effects, or live music.
  • Have strong critical listening skills and an interest in music production, recording, mixing, mastering, or loudspeaker evaluation.
