About the job

Requirements
  • At least 2–3 years of experience in a technical or engineering-adjacent environment, such as aerospace, defence, engineering consulting, a deep-tech start-up, or another demanding, fast-paced setting.
  • A background in engineering, physics, materials science, or a similarly technical discipline, with fluency in engineering content.
  • Ability to break down complex or technically ambiguous problems, structure analysis, and turn it into practical action.
  • Comfort operating between technical detail and programme execution, rather than being confined to producing slides, reports, or recommendations.
  • Ability to translate technical content into clear materials for non-technical audiences and translate programme and commercial constraints into actionable terms for engineering teams.
  • Ability to manage external partners and subcontractors and hold them to schedule and quality.
  • Ability to navigate applicable safety, quality, and regulatory frameworks, such as airworthiness, range safety, and product safety, to ensure they are correctly applied without serving as the technical authority.
  • Ability to manage several priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Fluent or native-level German and fluent English, with the confidence to operate in bilingual, cross-cultural settings.
Responsibilities
  • Support day-to-day delivery of defence programmes, paying close attention to technical scope, risk, and the maturity of the underlying engineering work.
  • Work directly with engineering teams to understand technical progress and translate it into programme status, risk, and decision inputs.
  • Translate customer requirements, technical and contractual inputs, and complex engineering information into plans, milestones, and actionable next steps.
  • Support technical reviews, discussions, and reporting; prepare materials and track actions through to closure.
  • Manage day-to-day relationships with technical partners and subcontractors, coordinate their deliverables, resolve technical queries, and hold them to schedule and quality.
  • Help ensure applicable safety and assurance frameworks, including airworthiness, range safety, and product safety, are correctly understood and applied across the programme.
  • Support commercial and programme activities, including delivery planning and proposals, working with engineering to ensure technical content is accurate and well presented.
  • Build fluency in the underlying technology to engage credibly with engineering teams and represent technical status to programme and customer stakeholders.
  • Take ownership of defined workstreams and increasingly complex technical and programme responsibilities as experience develops.

About the company

Hypersonica GmbH develops hypersonic technology for aerospace and defense in Europe, aiming for speeds of Mach 5 and above. Its focus is on hypersonic vehicles that require advanced propulsion, heat-resistant materials, and complex aerodynamics, developed in stealth mode for dual-use government and future civil high-speed transport. The company is backed by investors including General Catalyst, 201 Ventures, ESA BIC, and TUM Venture Labs, with involvement in European accelerator networks for early-stage support. Its goal is to strengthen Europe’s resilience and space sovereignty by building private-sector hypersonic capabilities for defense and potential civilian high-speed applications.

What believers are saying

  • February 2026 testing validated systems through ascent, descent, and subcomponent performance.
  • Hypersonica targets full-scale flight tests in Q1 2026 and operational capability by 2029.
  • NATO demand for deep precision strike gives Hypersonica a ready defense budget pull.

What critics are saying

  • Hypersonic strike programs face export controls, range access, and government customer delays.
  • Competitors like MBDA and Roxel can outspend Hypersonica on follow-on tests.
  • A single failed flight before 2027 would crush credibility and capital access.

What makes Hypersonica unique

  • Hypersonica flew Mach 6 from Andøya Space on February 3, 2026.
  • It claims Europe’s first privately funded hypersonic missile flight.
  • Plural, SPRIND, General Catalyst, and 201 Ventures back its 2026 roadmap.

Munich's Hypersonica raises €23.3M Series A, tests hypersonic missile at Mach 6

Munich-based hypersonic systems startup Hypersonica has emerged from stealth with a €23.3 million Series A funding round led by Plural and a successful test launch. Founded in December 2023, the company is developing Europe's first privately funded hypersonic strike capability. On 3 February, Hypersonica launched a missile prototype from Andøya Space in Norway, reaching speeds exceeding Mach 6 and a range over 300 kilometres. The company completed the vehicle's development in just nine months. The Series A round included participation from Germany's Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovation, General Catalyst and 201 Ventures. Hypersonica aims to deliver an initial short-range hypersonic strike capability by 2027 and fully operational hypersonic glide vehicles by 2029, targeting NATO member states' defence requirements.
