Requirements
  • A doctorate degree in Nursing or a related field from an accredited college or university recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.
  • Hold or be qualified to hold a Nevada registered nurse license.
  • Be a Certified Nurse Midwife.
  • Obtain required credentials prior to the start date.
Responsibilities
  • Provide overall leadership for the sustainability of the program, including strategic planning for the specialty.
  • Work with the Office of Enrollment and Student Affairs and the Director of the Master of Science in Nursing program to develop recruitment and marketing strategies, respond to potential student inquiries, and participate in the admission process by interviewing and selecting applicants.
  • Serve as the Academic Advisor to students in the specialty, focusing on certification eligibility, academic progression, and retention.
  • Design and provide expert instruction for Certified Nurse Midwife preparation through didactic, simulation, clinical, and innovative approaches.
  • Work with the clinical placement office to identify the specialty's need for clinical preceptors and sites.
  • Ensure clinical site and preceptor information is entered and maintained in a shared database, including evaluation of each, and oversee completion of these functions.
  • Orient new faculty and mentor faculty teaching in the specialty program; identify qualified candidates and nominate preceptors for adjunct faculty positions.
  • Ensure specialty standards for program accreditation and graduate certification are met.
  • Maintain appropriate programmatic records according to American College of Nurse-Midwives policies, including program philosophy, objectives, master schedule, organizational charts, administrative policies and procedures, budget information, committee meeting minutes, hospital statistics and data, current course outlines, objectives, student brochure, examinations and testing materials, faculty teaching and time-commitment data, and self-study records.
  • Complete program and accreditation reports in a timely manner.
  • Articulate faculty needs for the specialty to the Master of Science in Nursing Program Director and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs based on student numbers, specialty-specific needs, and teaching-learning activities.
  • Participate in Master of Science in Nursing Program and Specialty Coordinator meetings, as well as Curriculum Committee activities related to course, curricular, and program changes.
  • Ensure completion of program evaluation data collection, including tracking student outcomes such as certification-exam performance and employment settings; analyze data and propose appropriate programmatic changes.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs, recommend, orient, and supervise clinical instructors according to enrollment and site placements.
  • Serve as a role model for scholarship in clinical or educational research, including evidence-based guidelines, quality improvement, and other projects, and disseminate results through manuscripts and presentations.
  • Participate in local, regional, and national specialty organizations to remain current on environmental issues that may impact nurse-midwifery practice.
  • Maintain specialty certification credentials.
  • Maintain active practice as a Certified Nurse Midwife.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years' experience in academic and clinical teaching.
