Requirements
  • Knowledge of Emergency Medical Services practices, laboratory safety practices, emergency procedures, pre-hospital practices, and proper assessment techniques.
  • Skill in demonstrating the safe and correct use and maintenance of equipment.
  • Teaching and testing skills and the ability to deliver instructional presentations.
  • Ability to prepare an Emergency Medical Services laboratory for instructional practices and to train and direct students.
  • An Associate's degree in a related field or approved alternate certification or training.
  • At least three years of experience as a Paramedic functioning on an emergency response ambulance or in a pre-hospital setting.
  • Competency with technology that supports learning and teaching.
  • Availability for evening, weekend, or summer assignments as appropriate.
  • Ability to perform medium work involving exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds constantly.
  • Ability to complete federal Employment Eligibility Verification and provide original documents proving identity and authorization to work in the United States.
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background check.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver approved curriculum, content, and assessments in an applied learning environment.
  • Prepare and deliver high-quality instruction, facilitate student learning, and organize daily classes using creative and innovative techniques.
  • Develop course syllabi and instructional plans.
  • Tailor teaching methods to diverse learning styles and needs.
  • Facilitate activities and discussions, provide targeted guidance and mentorship, and offer constructive feedback to support student growth and learning outcomes.
  • Interpret and administer assessments and continually evaluate and improve teaching strategies.
  • Integrate technology effectively to enhance learning experiences.
  • Fulfill the assigned schedule and maintain accurate student records.
  • Maintain an instructional environment emphasizing safety and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student or participant evaluation.
  • Advise students and collaborate with the Office of Student Success to provide current information on tutoring and retention programs.
  • Participate in program tours and recruitment events and assist with department or program recruitment planning.
  • Demonstrate service to students, parents, employers, media, coworkers, and the public while supporting the college's mission, vision, and values.
  • Train and direct students in emergency procedures, including suctioning, oxygen therapy, airway management, traction, splinting, and bandaging.
  • Demonstrate procedures including infant and adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation instruction, spinal immobilization, vital signs, and patient assessment.
  • Direct students in medical administration procedures, including metered-dose inhalers, epinephrine auto-injectors, sublingual, intramuscular, and subcutaneous injections, endotracheal procedures, cardioversion, code management, and defibrillation.
  • Train students in electrocardiogram recognition and procedures including adult and infant endotracheal intubation, esophageal intubation, intraosseous infusion, intravenous catheter insertion, external cardiac pacing, pneumatic anti-shock trousers, and automatic external defibrillation.
  • Provide instruction in hazardous materials, communications, ambulance operations, and multi-casualty incidents.
  • Revise course content and teaching methodology to maintain current working knowledge.
  • Direct and evaluate students during skills practice involving the safe and effective use of Emergency Medical Services equipment and simulation manikins.
  • Prepare Emergency Medical Services laboratory sessions with the materials and equipment needed to teach or evaluate each student's skills.
  • Maintain current working knowledge of pre-hospital practices and Emergency Medical Services education curriculum.
  • Train and direct students in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, rescue breathing, airway opening, chest compressions, automated external defibrillator operation, basic life support procedures, and protocols using American Heart Association-approved training materials.
  • Train and direct students in activating emergency response systems.
  • Train and direct students in medical, trauma, pediatric, and geriatric assessment techniques.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior teaching experience.
  • Emergency Medical Services Instructor Certification, Basic Life Support Instructor, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Instructor, Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor, Prehospital Trauma Life Support Instructor, or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Paramedic certification.
  • Expertise in Emergency Medicine and basic and advanced life support skills.
  • Communication, teaching, critical thinking, problem-solving, adaptability, flexibility, empathy, compassion, patience, resilience, evidence-based continuous learning, and ethical and professional conduct.
