Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee a team of Research Operations staff supporting departmental administrative, operational, and research support activities.
  • Develop organizational staffing plans and ensure employees are recruited, onboarded, trained, supervised, and evaluated; foster employee development and engagement and address performance concerns as needed.
  • Partner with departmental leadership on strategic initiatives supporting the research mission.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve administrative processes, workflows, standard operating procedures, and operational resources, including SharePoint sites, training materials, reference guides, and centralized documentation.
  • Oversee and coordinate research operations functions, including faculty, staff, and student recruitment and onboarding, personnel actions, procurement and travel support, Workday training support, and related administrative activities.
  • Manage departmental administrative resources and research support programs and partner with departmental leadership on budgeting, resource planning, operational decision-making, and departmental initiatives.
  • Oversee internal funding programs, shared resources, operational systems, space and resource allocation, and other activities supporting the research enterprise.
  • Provide strategic financial stewardship and fiscal oversight of departmental and institutional resources.
  • Direct the management, monitoring, and monthly reconciliation of more than $40 million in internal funding commitments, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and responsible resource allocation.
  • Develop and maintain research operational metrics, dashboards, reports, and analyses to support leadership decision-making, resource planning, process improvement, and evaluation of departmental initiatives.
  • Serve as a primary operational liaison for faculty, research staff, trainees, institutional partners, and administrative offices, facilitating communication, coordination, and delivery of research support services.
  • Evaluate operational effectiveness, identify improvement opportunities, and recommend and execute solutions supporting departmental and organizational priorities.
  • Ensure departmental policies, procedures, and activities comply with KUMC policies and applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Lead or participate in special projects and perform other assigned duties supporting departmental, institutional, and research enterprise priorities.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Two years of experience working in higher education or a healthcare institution.
  • Experience with business technology tools such as REDCap, Canva, Microsoft Project, and Emma.
  • Experience with procurement processes and vendor management.
  • Experience with budget development and financial oversight.
