What believers are saying

  • The 136,000-square-foot Pediatric Center began inpatient admissions March 23, 2026.
  • Pine Rest and WMU’s April 28, 2026 Nursing Academy directly addresses nurse shortages.
  • BRAINS became a Pine Rest service on October 27, 2025, strengthening pediatric referrals.

What critics are saying

  • Pediatric Center utilization must ramp fast or 66 beds drain margin.
  • WMU nurses can leave after their two-year commitment expires, restarting shortages in 2028.
  • BRAINS integration can disrupt scheduling, billing, and clinician retention through 2026.

What makes Pine Rest unique

  • Michigan’s first dedicated children’s behavioral health hospital opened March 18, 2026.
  • Pine Rest’s 1910 Christian mission still anchors its full-continuum inpatient-to-outpatient model.
  • MSU residency, ECT, TMS, and statewide referrals create hard-to-replicate clinical depth.
