TRISTAR opens new facility in Bedford, purpose-built for Crane.

TRISTAR opens new facility in Bedford, purpose-built for Crane. By SIBR News September 25, 2026 Briana Pace | Southern Indiana Business Report Bedford native company, TRISTAR, has expanded in town. The defense solutions business celebrated opening its newest facility with a ribbon cutting September 22, at the new office in Bedford. Located at 1007 4th St., the new installation was purpose-built to support projects at Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane (NSWC) and existing electronic warfare programs, according to TRISTAR CEO Vince Carlos Gaitani. "The work in this building is something that is super important to us," NSWC Crane Technical Director Angie Lewis said, "because it is about the work that allows our surface Navy and those ships to be able to be prepared and protected at sea." Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Technical Director Angie Lewis speaks at the TRISTAR ribbon cutting Sept. 22, 2026, at the new facility in Bedford, Indiana. She attended and spoke at the Kratos Defense groundbreaking the day before. Photo by Briana Pace Lewis said for over 30 years, TRISTAR has been a tried and true, steady partner to NSWC Crane. TRISTAR was founded in March 1995 in Bedford and has held a presence in town ever since. It was first located in an old gas company building, then outgrew the space and moved to 1414 H Street. The company again grew too large for the space and took operations to East Gate Business & Technology Center. "East Gate is an amazing facility," Gaitani said, "but what we determined is that we needed something that was purpose-built for the work we were doing for Crane." TRISTAR CEO Vince Carlos Gaitani speaks at the TRISTAR ribbon cutting Sept. 22, 2026, at the new facility in Bedford, Indiana. Gaitani attributed the company's success to its employees. Photo by Briana Pace He added they considered modifying the location, but decided that a fresh start in a new space was the best option. He also said SAIC was looking to expand at East Gate, so it made sense to leave the facility to them and start new. Gaitani knew he did not want the company to leave Bedford though. He attributes the company's success to the people of Bedford and Lawrence County. "So many of our people came from Bedford, grew up in Bedford, in Lawrence County," he said. "The fact is, the talent that is here allowed us to expand and grow." TRISTAR has facilities in Bloomington and Odon, Indiana; Arlington, Chesapeake and Dahlegren, Virginia; Tampa, Florida; Charleston, South Carolina; and San Diego, California. They support Department of Defense programs for the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps., Army and Coast Guard, providing "cutting edge solutions in support of the warfighter and our nation."

Keep human-in-the-loop biometrics in the age of agentic AI, says SAIC's Jerry Tipton.

Keep human-in-the-loop biometrics in the age of agentic AI, says SAIC's Jerry Tipton. Having spent decades independently testing and evaluating biometric systems, SAIC has mitigated a lot of challenges with AI for deployment in real-world environments. When Jerry Tipton, Executive Director, Integrated Security Technologies and Programs, at SAIC sat down with Identity Week at the recent Identity Week America 2026, he lent his knowledge to explain how systems don't always perform at the same level as vendors expect during scenario testing with real people compared with the development phase. He says, "when companies design products, they design with a great deal of precision creating to get perfect answers and performance". However, many leaders in government in particular still have big misconceptions around the technology as its performance outside of trials needs to be continuously reviewed. Its conversation turned to discussing the AI divide. Whilst Identity Week expect AI systems to be getting more advanced, which they are, they can also fail spectacularly and pose challenges to enrolment or onboarding, which can be blamed on the user. These system faults can be supported in SAIC's critical research. Whilst biases are successfully mitigated by vendors, reports like this help vendors to make necessary improvements. Tipton's shares his valuable insight that Identity Week should adopt a realistic judgement about AI, and maintain a strong relationship between humans and AI as algorithms and tools for decision making advance. He states it is critical to keep human-in-the-loop biometrics in the age of agentic AI for trust and acceptance, driving world-wide adoption. To ensure adoption, human context is also important to allow the AI to make responsible decisions. Errors and systemic risk require humans in the loop.
