Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Perform clerical, receptionist, dispatching, admitting, and discharge duties in support of the assigned patient care department.
  • Greet patients and perform admitting functions upon arrival to the department.
  • Prepare patient identification bands and name tags accurately.
  • Welcome visitors, respond to requests for assistance or information, and help deliver items to patient rooms.
  • Collect and distribute department mail appropriately.
  • Communicate transfer information promptly when a patient is transferred to another facility.
  • Maintain stock levels of office supplies.
  • Perform clerical admission and discharge functions.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments as requested by physicians.
  • Arrange transportation for patients as necessary.
  • Organize and maintain patient and department records to support accurate and complete documentation.
  • Fax patient chart copies as needed for transfer or follow-up care.
  • Coordinate and facilitate ongoing communication for efficient intra-departmental and interdepartmental operations.
  • Communicate with other departments regarding admitted, discharged, transferred, or deceased patients, and communicate patient information and unit needs within the department.
  • Answer telephone calls courteously and promptly, provide information within the scope of knowledge, and forward calls to appropriate staff members.
  • Answer patient call bells and dispatch appropriate personnel.
  • Provide physicians and others with requested information about patients or department routines in accordance with hospital policy on release of patient information.
  • Coordinate and facilitate timely, efficient intra-departmental and interdepartmental transportation of patients.
  • Phone consults to other services accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain communication with patient care departments, including Dietary, Lab, Telemetry, and Video Monitoring, to ensure patient care needs are met.
Desired Qualifications
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program or secretarial school is preferred.
  • One year of administrative or clerical experience is preferred.
