  • Completion of 60 college credits from a federally accredited or New York State-registered college.
  • Candidates must be bondable.
  • Employees must obtain a New York State Notary Public License within one year of appointment and maintain it throughout employment in this title.
  • Candidates must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State at the time of appointment and during employment.
  • Candidates must pass a qualifying Spanish language examination.
  • Proficiency in both Spanish and English is required.
Responsibilities
  • Attend on-the-job and formalized training sessions.
  • Study literature and other materials to acquire essential knowledge of the field.
  • Assist in obtaining information such as a debtor's residence, family records, and financial status from a variety of sources.
  • Review records of delinquent accounts and follow up through telephone and personal contact with individuals and governmental agencies to locate people with delinquent accounts.
  • Interview unwed mothers to assist in determining the feasibility of pursuing court action to establish paternity.
  • Make referrals for appropriate legal action to establish accounts and when accounts are uncollectible.
  • Compile and furnish required information for related agencies and court action.
  • Monitor child support payments pursuant to court orders or voluntary agreements.
  • Maintain continuous files and prepare appropriate reports.
