Xpansiv runs a global marketplace for ESG-inclusive commodities, enabling participants to buy and sell energy, carbon offsets, water, and other differentiated materials. It operates leading ESG spot markets (such as CBL, H2OX, ACE, and OTX) and provides a single interface to access multiple registries, streamlining ESG portfolio management. The platform turns ESG spot price data into high-quality reference products and handles transactions and market data services, generating revenue from transaction fees and data services. Customers include energy producers, industrials, and financial institutions seeking to price and manage ESG risk and portfolios. Compared with others, Xpansiv combines an ESG-focused marketplace with integrated data and registry access in one place, improving transparency and efficiency. Its goal is to support the transition to a net-zero future by enabling accurate pricing, trading, and management of ESG factors in global markets.

Xpansiv has secured an undisclosed investment from European growth investor Verdane to expand its environmental markets infrastructure platform. The company plans to use the capital for acquisitions, new product development, and international expansion across carbon credits, renewable energy certificates, clean fuels, and other environmental commodities. Xpansiv operates registries, marketplaces, and trading services that process approximately 1 billion transactions annually. Its registry network supports over 320 gigawatts of renewable generation capacity across 60 countries, managing about 28% of RECs issued globally in 2025. The investment will support Xpansiv's acquisition strategy, which has included 12 deals since 2017. In September 2026, the company agreed to acquire Formbay, an Australian platform supporting 25% of the country's Small-scale Technology Certificate market. The deal comes as MSCI estimates capital in the global carbon credit market reached $22 billion in 2025, up 72% from 2024.
Growth investment supports Xpansiv’s M&A strategy, international expansion, and product development
Verdane invests in environmental markets platform Xpansiv. Global carbon and environmental commodities market infrastructure platform Xpansiv and decarbonization-focused growth investor Verdane announced today a new strategic partnership, with Verdane leading a major capital raise by Xpansiv. The companies said that the new capital will support Xpansiv's acquisition strategy and expansion into new products, asset classes and geographies. John Melby, CEO of Xpansiv, said: "This partnership enables us to move faster on acquiring next-generation solutions to complement our internal innovation, expanding the breadth and depth of what we can offer customers globally." Xpansiv provides market infrastructure for energy and environmental commodities, enabling participants to trade, manage and access data across markets including carbon, renewable energy, clean fuels and water. The new investment follows a series of acquisitions by Xpansiv over the past four years, including energy and environmental registry infrastructure provider APX, market execution services provider Evolution Markets, and Evident, the UK-based operator of the I-REC(E) registry. Xpansiv said that the new investment will support the continuation of its acquisition strategy as it expands its global energy and environmental markets infrastructure platform. Investors in the company include Blackstone Group, Verdane, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, Aramco Ventures, Macquarie Group Ltd., S&P Global Ventures, Aware Super, BP Ventures and Commonwealth Bank. Melanie Campbell, Principal at Verdane, said: "Xpansiv operates the market infrastructure for the global energy transition, and that position strengthens as reporting and compliance obligations widen. Infrastructure of this kind takes years to build, and no one else has assembled it end to end. We look forward to partnering with Xpansiv and helping it scale to meet growing global demand for its platform."
Sydney-born, New York-based energy trading firm Xpansiv has completed a capital raising in Europe. The company, which is eyeing an initial public offering, already counts Blackstone, Macquarie, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Goldman Sachs, Aware Super and Aramco Ventures among its backers. The capital raising is designed to support growth in Australia and globally. Xpansiv's founders argue the energy market is undergoing a significant global shift, driven partly by the artificial intelligence boom. The company's blue-chip share register reflects growing investor interest in energy trading platforms amid rapidly changing global energy markets.
Xpansiv has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Formbay, an Australian AI-enabled renewable energy certificate and compliance technology platform. Formbay supports around one-quarter of Australia's Small-scale Technology Certificates, creating nearly 100,000 certificates per day and facilitating more than AUD $1 billion in certificate transactions in 2025. The company works with nearly 30,000 registered retailers and installers, handling one in three home solar installations nationally. Formbay's platform manages compliance and payments across solar, batteries, and energy efficiency programmes. The acquisition will unite both Australian-born companies' infrastructure capabilities. Formbay will continue operating with no planned changes to day-to-day operations, platform access, or pricing for customers. This marks Xpansiv's 13th acquisition since 2017. The transaction, subject to regulatory approval, is expected to close later this year and be immediately accretive to Xpansiv's Adjusted EBITDA.
