Requirements
  • Demonstrated relevant knowledge of air conditioning, uninterruptible power supply systems, generators, and low-voltage systems.
  • Ability to fault-find using graphical information and current alarm data.
  • Mechanical bias in building services engineering, with plumbing preferred.
  • Ability to operate a Permit to Work system in accordance with quality, health and safety procedures and client requirements.
  • Ability to prepare and use Method Statements and Risk Assessments for all tasks.
  • Ability to operate and check the Lockout/Tagout system in accordance with quality, health and safety procedures and client requirements.
  • Ability to use a computer-based maintenance system such as Maximo and accurately capture data in preventive maintenance and reactive tickets.
  • Ability to comply with contractual key performance indicators and service-level agreements.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and follow safe working practices.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure routine preventive planned maintenance is carried out on all mechanical and electrical plant in accordance with site task schedules and asset lists.
  • Complete reactive tasks throughout the building, including concessionary stores and fabric-related items, and highlight areas for improvement.
  • Ensure subcontractors meet contract requirements and administer their work approvals and safe operation while repairs or services are carried out on site.
  • Ensure plant faults and defects are swiftly remedied to maintain plant in serviceable order.
  • Ensure suitable spares are available for maintenance and reactive works, and provide parts lists and estimated remedial-work timescales.
  • Complete and promptly submit paperwork for reactive and breakdown works to the contract administrator.
  • Develop working relationships with BGIS staff, subcontractors, and client representatives.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy working environment, including required uniform and personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain a professional image of BGIS when interacting with clients.
  • Keep BGIS plant rooms locked, clean, and tidy.
  • Supervise and monitor subcontractor maintenance work while they are on site.
  • Action and complete assigned tasks as appropriate.
  • Complete directed tasks with appropriate health and safety awareness and implementation.
  • Keep the computer-based maintenance system up to date and close preventive maintenance and reactive tickets with accurate data.
  • Ensure the engineering team produces required near-miss reports, dynamic risk assessments, and detailed records of site activities; challenge and escalate non-compliance where necessary.
  • Operate a Permit to Work system in accordance with BGIS quality, health and safety procedures and client requirements or an approved client system.
  • Proactively check operation of the Lockout/Tagout system in accordance with BGIS quality, health and safety procedures and client requirements.
  • Oversee building environmental conditions using the Building Management System and use it to maintain acceptable internal conditions.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the site management team.

Veritas Capital to acquire facilities manager BGIS. July 17, 2026 | John McNulty Veritas Capital has agreed to acquire BGIS from CCMP Capital Advisors and Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo). BGIS runs and maintains buildings and facilities - offices, data centers, and government, healthcare, and industrial sites - for large public and private organizations, handling the engineering, operations, and technology that keep those properties running, a service known in the industry as technical integrated facilities management (IFM). The company oversees more than 65,000 facilities totaling over 620 million square feet globally with a team of more than 12,000. Gord Hicks continues as chief executive officer and will lead the business with his management team. CCMP and AIMCo had backed BGIS since 2019. Veritas Capital, a technology investor focused on companies operating at the intersection of technology and government, manages over $54 billion in assets.
