About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in a directly related specialty of biology, such as biotechnology, forensic science, or biology.
  • Two years of experience in a professional laboratory scientific role performing both automated and manual cell culture operations for induced pluripotent stem cell lines in compliance with Laboratory Information Management Systems.
  • Experience with automated induced pluripotent stem cell derivation and cell culture operations, including production and handling of biological materials for automated induced pluripotent stem cell reprogramming, expansion, maintenance, and assay execution, including robotic media exchange, passaging, thawing, and cryopreservation.
  • Experience processing whole blood, skin, saliva, and fibroblast samples; isolating peripheral blood mononuclear cells using manual and automated array systems; and preparing biological inputs for downstream reprogramming and discovery workflows within Laboratory Information Management Systems platforms.
  • Experience executing fibroblast reprogramming protocols, initiating stem cell discovery pipelines, and transitioning primary cell types into pluripotent states under controlled manual and automated conditions.
  • Experience implementing, developing, and continuously improving novel automated assays and workflows; analyzing and assessing robotic system performance; and identifying and resolving automation-related process issues affecting biological sample production.
  • Experience maintaining organized, accurate records; independently troubleshooting with concise error reporting to scientific teams; and using Laboratory Information Management Systems tracking systems for sample and process traceability.

Responsibilities

  • Perform project planning, experimental design, method development, laboratory procedures, protocol adaptation, data collection and analysis, documentation, and contributions to reports and other written materials for human and mammalian cell culture.
  • Implement and perform cell biology tasks and procedures, including automated and manual cell culture and related activities.
  • Plan and monitor resources needed for cell culture, spatial transcriptomics, and hyperplexed imaging technologies.
  • Maintain inventory control and coordinate laboratory space, equipment, facilities, and field questions.
  • Monitor expenditures and track resources across projects as required.
  • Implement protocols from the literature; identify problems; troubleshoot and analyze variations in regular testing protocols; and modify, refine, or adapt techniques and procedures.
  • Modify and adjust quality control measures.
  • Lead the exchange of research information through demonstration and instruction.
  • Adapt protocols and develop new workflows with periodic support as required.
  • Perform workflows including fibroblast expansion, reprogramming, and induced pluripotent stem cell expansion on robotic platforms or manually as required.
  • Store and withdraw specimens from liquid nitrogen and freezers and prepare media and reagents for daily work.
  • Work with the laboratory operations team to ensure reagent and consumable inventory is accurately and efficiently stocked.
  • Create and modify standard operating procedures, file tickets to software and automation teams, and provide feedback at inter- and intra-team meetings.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineering teams, software personnel, technical support personnel, scientists, and technical specialists to support day-to-day laboratory operations and resolve complex issues.

About the Company

The Jackson Laboratory

Nonprofit mouse genetics data hub

The Jackson Laboratory conducts biomedical research using laboratory mice to study genetic and genomic causes of human diseases. It maintains the Mouse Genome Informatics database, combining genetic, genomic, and biological data, and also provides engineered mice and genomic data analyses to researchers. It differs from many competitors by pairing a large, publicly accessible data resource (MGI) with hands-on mouse model production and specialized services, backed by education and collaboration across sectors. Its goal is to accelerate human health by understanding how genetic variation drives disease and by equipping researchers with data, models, and training to advance medical discovery.
