Nvidia is set to report earnings this week, a key test for the AI trade. The chipmaker's revenues have quintupled in the past two years and are expected to nearly double again next year. Adjusted net income has surged 10,686% over the period, with next year's anticipated net income of $179.2 billion versus $791 million in fiscal 2024. Options markets imply a move of roughly 6% higher or lower, translating to a $73.3 billion change in Nvidia's $1.22 trillion market capitalisation. The company trades below 7 times 2027 estimated earnings, though its 86% gross margins face sustainability questions. Options strategist Mike Khouw suggests a November 900/1300 short-strangle trade, collecting roughly $65 or 6% of the current stock price over seven weeks, representing a 40% annualised return with a 71% probability of profit.
US markets opened in the red Monday ahead of a busy week of economic data releases and key earnings. The Dow fell 288 points, the Nasdaq dropped 153 points, and the S&P 500 declined 26 points. The 10-year Treasury yield reached 5.21%, its highest level since 2007. Oil prices rose over 2.5%, with WTI crude at $94 per barrel and Brent at $106 per barrel. Investors await several key reports this week, including the August Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey on Tuesday and September's Personal Consumption Expenditures data. Both headline and core PCE figures are expected to tick down 10 basis points to 3.6% and 3.2% year-over-year respectively. AI chipmaker Micron reports fiscal Q4 results Wednesday after market close, with analysts forecasting 937.95% earnings growth and 349.48% revenue growth year-over-year.
Three AI chatbots — ChatGPT, Grok, and Claude — independently selected Micron Technology as their top stock pick for the week of 28 September, citing the memory-chip maker's upcoming fiscal fourth-quarter earnings report. Micron had guided for fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of approximately $50 billion, up from $11.3 billion a year earlier. Adjusted EPS guidance was $31, plus or minus $1, with consensus at $31.14 per share compared with $3.03 a year ago. The stock traded near $1,080 on Friday morning, up about 278% year-to-date, though still roughly 13% below its 25 June high of $1,255. All three chatbots cited AI-driven memory demand and Citi's recent price-target increase to $1,300. ChatGPT and Grok both set targets of $1,200 with confidence scores of 8 out of 10, whilst Claude set a more cautious target of $1,180 with a confidence score of 6 out of 10.
Micron Technology reported fiscal third-quarter 2026 revenues of $41.46 billion, up from $23.86 billion the previous quarter, driven by strong demand for high-bandwidth memory chips used in AI servers. The company expects revenues to reach around $50 billion in the fourth quarter with an 86% gross margin. NVIDIA's data centre segment revenues surged 117% year-over-year to $89 billion in fiscal Q2 2027, with total revenues reaching $96 billion. The company projects $108 billion in revenues for the third quarter. NVIDIA's 63.7% net profit margin exceeds Micron's 55.9%, whilst its 96% return on equity surpasses Micron's 72.5%. NVIDIA holds a Zacks Rank #1 rating, compared to Micron's #3 rating.
Taiwan's chip exports reached a record $30.8 billion in August, up 60% year-over-year, according to the Ministry of Finance. Integrated circuits accounted for 37.4% of total exports, up from 34.9% in July. The surge reflects continued AI demand, with corroborating data showing South Korean chip exports rose 259% in early September and TSMC reporting 53.3% revenue growth in August. Advanced Micro Devices and Micron Technology both broke out of long consolidations this month. AMD hit a record high of $624.84, with analysts eyeing $691 as the next target. Micron is holding above $1,032 support, roughly 16% below its record high of $1,255. Capriole Investments founder Charles Edwards suggests AI demand remains underpriced despite the rally.
