About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in optics or optical engineering, applied physics with an optical specialization, photonics, electro-optical engineering, optical science or optical technology, or another optics-related discipline.
  • Three to five years of experience in optical module assembly, integration, alignment, or calibration; optical testing or measurement such as laser alignment, imaging, basic interferometry, illumination systems, or optical sensors; or troubleshooting optical modules or sensing components in precision equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with optical benches, alignment tools, microscopes, or optical inspection equipment.
  • Understanding of fundamental optics principles, including reflection and refraction, imaging basics, tolerancing, alignment sensitivity, and contamination effects.
  • Ability to interpret optical measurements and identify abnormal system behavior.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for optical or system-level issues.
  • Experience supporting production, manufacturing engineering, or equipment troubleshooting.
  • Legally authorized to access controlled technology under the United States Export Administration Regulations before beginning work.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose optical issues across PAS5500, YS, RH, and XT modules, including illumination paths, imaging modules, optical sensors, interferometric components, and alignment or calibration fixtures.
  • Perform optical alignment checks, optical path inspection, contamination evaluation, and basic interferometric or reflective diagnostics.
  • Investigate light source stability issues, optical throughput variations, imaging behavior deviations, sensor accuracy concerns, and calibration failures.
  • Support factory integration activities involving optical modules, lens assemblies, optical stages, scanning or measurement submodules, and sensor-based calibration processes.
  • Execute optical calibration sequences and assess calibration result quality.
  • Provide containment actions to minimize machine downtime and secure stable production output.
  • Collaborate with Development & Engineering optics, mechatronics, and systems and controls teams on investigations into optical behavior deviations or sensing inconsistencies.
  • Define accurate technical problem statements and support structured root cause analysis.
  • Contribute to engineering change notice implementation and ensure solutions resolve structural optical issues.
  • Maintain and enhance optical diagnostic procedures, calibration workflows, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Identify diagnostic gaps and propose improvements in test steps, alignment checks, or optical evaluation criteria.
  • Improve documentation clarity to support Manufacturing and Customer Support.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, Software & Control, Mechatronics, and Development & Engineering optical teams to verify findings and drive issue resolution.
  • Communicate with global stakeholders and follow proper escalation paths.
  • Provide occasional weekend support at the Linkou Factory, approximately once every two months, scheduled on either Saturday or Sunday.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with semiconductor equipment, metrology tools, optical modules, or precision machinery.
  • Familiarity with optical calibration methods, optical inspection tools, or sensor characterization.
  • Understanding of mechanical-optical interactions and tolerance stack-up behavior.
  • Exposure to engineering change processes, structured root cause analysis, or reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Basic scripting in MATLAB or Python for optical data analysis.

About the Company

ASML

Manufactures photolithography systems for semiconductors

ASML makes photolithography systems for semiconductor manufacturing, focusing on deep ultraviolet (DUV) and extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines that print circuits on silicon wafers. EUV enables finer features than DUV by using shorter-wavelength light. The company earns revenue from selling the machines and from installation, maintenance, and upgrades, and it differentiates itself by its dominant position in high-end lithography and a global services network serving major chipmakers like TSMC, Samsung, and Intel.
