Responsibilities
  • Process soiled hotel bed linens, terry, and food-and-beverage linens using laundry and dry-cleaning machinery according to hotel standards.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with departmental policies, service procedures, and standards.
  • Respond promptly to and acknowledge guests.
  • Maintain knowledge of equipment maintenance and use equipment only as intended.
  • Anticipate guest needs and maintain positive guest relations.
  • Answer guest inquiries about hotel services, features, local attractions, and activities.
  • Resolve guest complaints and ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness, satisfaction, and organization of assigned work areas.
  • Use cleaning chemicals according to Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations and hotel requirements.
  • Follow health department, sanitation, and safety regulations.
  • Set up and organize the workstation with designated supplies and equipment and replenish them as needed.
  • Monitor chemical and water usage to maximize consumption.
  • Separate soiled bed linen, terry, and food-and-beverage table linen; bundle and document the amounts in each bundle.
  • Sort stained or damaged items and determine whether they should be rewashed or discarded; maintain an inventory of discarded items.
  • Remove debris from floors after each sorting.
  • Weigh each bundle of soiled linen and place the designated weights in laundry machines.
  • Operate laundry machines and add designated chemicals according to specified amounts, times, and temperatures.
  • Remove washed articles from washing machines after cycles are complete, inspect cleanliness, and place them in clean carts.
  • Transport washed linen to dryers, load dryers according to load size, and set times and temperatures for the articles being dried.
  • Remove dried articles from dryers and transport them in clean linen carts to the appropriate finishing area.
  • Operate folder and ironing machines and inspect articles for cleanliness and condition during processing.
  • Separate damaged or stained articles.
  • Fold clean articles, stack them by type and size, and place stacks in designated distribution areas.
  • Issue clean table linens and service towels or rags to Food and Beverage personnel.
  • Document and process guest requests for laundry, dry cleaning, and pressing of garments, hotel uniforms, and designated management garments.
  • Operate dry-cleaning equipment and use specified chemicals; process and finish garments according to garment labels.
  • Separate stained or damaged hotel uniforms and determine whether they require repair, re-cleaning, or disposal; maintain an inventory of discarded uniforms.
  • Maintain accurate poundage records for dry cleaning and laundry.
  • Report faulty equipment, damaged garments or linen, shortages, maintenance needs, safety hazards, and other problems to the supervisor.
  • Remove lint and debris from dryer filters and change filters.
  • Transport trash containers to the dumpster, empty and clean them, and follow recycling procedures.
  • Break down and clean work areas and equipment.
  • Use designated chemicals, supplies, and equipment to clean the laundry-room floor.
  • Restock chemicals for the next shift as assigned.
