Responsibilities
  • Enhance manager capability by conducting one-on-one consulting and coaching with business leaders or engaging relevant Human Resources partners to advise and guide them on labor issues, regulations, and best practices.
  • Identify and aggregate labor relations training needs within the supported business, region, or geography; develop implementation plans and relevant training; and coordinate or deliver training sessions on effective labor relations practices and topics to management, business leadership, and relevant Human Resources partners and leadership.
  • Enforce labor laws, regulations, contractual obligations, and collective bargaining agreements, and ensure all contact between the business and employee representative bodies is underpinned by appropriate security principles.
  • Partner with Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs in labor contract and collective bargaining negotiations and labor arbitrations; interpret and administer labor contracts with relevant business and Human Resources partners concerning contractually obligated terms and conditions of employment, including compensation, scheduling, hours, and union practices.
  • Engage with employee representative bodies and management through the Labor Management Committee to resolve issues, and negotiate mid-term bargaining issues with employee representative bodies in partnership with Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs.
  • Partner with Centers of Excellence to implement and capitalize on scalable labor relations programs and processes, including performance and development cycles, management excellence communities, employee movement, and ad hoc projects.
  • Manage labor relations processes for a business, region, or geography by reviewing progress and making recommendations on project and program management, integrating security best practices into key processes.
  • Lead the design and implementation of local labor relations or Human Resources projects and programs that require information and consultation with employee representative bodies, such as reductions in force or benefit changes, based on the needs of a business, region, or geography.
  • Provide project guidance on prioritization, timelines, budget, resourcing, and impact.
  • Align and integrate communication strategies and messages from the Center of Excellence, guide others in implementing communications, manage communications in alignment with Microsoft's security principles, and collaborate with peer disciplines to gain stakeholder buy-in on programs and processes.
  • Identify and present trends and insights from Employee Relations and Global Employee Relations data on organizational health solutions, and recommend solutions to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Provide expert consulting services to managers and employees on labor relations programs, processes, and initiatives.
  • Strengthen positive relationships with employee representative bodies and their representatives and leaders; determine potential bargaining-unit scope with those bodies and manage organizing activity.
  • Maintain a feedback loop with Human Resources and Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs to ensure awareness of and advise on business decisions that may affect employees represented by employee representative bodies, and act as the Labor Relations Representative on Labor Management Committees.
  • Build relationships with managers and business stakeholders to consult and inform them about decisions affecting business units, and maintain ongoing communication and engagement with external stakeholders on complex recurring or ad hoc workforce programs.
  • Ensure collective bargaining agreements and company agreements include current, agreed methods for managing data and information security and align with Microsoft's policies; coach team members to follow Microsoft's security principles in employee representative body engagements.
  • Direct the diagnosis and resolution of highly complex, visible, and risky issues concerning labor laws, regulations, and contractual concerns or violations, independently and with employee representatives, managers, Human Resources peers, and Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs as appropriate.
  • Lead mediation between employee representatives and the company to resolve conflicts, labor disputes, and grievances; implement solutions consistent with labor laws, regulations, contractual obligations, and established principles and culture while prioritizing employee and labor experiences and maintaining a safe, professional work environment.
  • Interpret trends in labor relations, legislative, and regulatory environments that may affect labor relations; recommend Human Resources policy changes; implement solutions that support an open, inclusive, values-based environment; incorporate security principles in stakeholder communications; and anticipate long-term impacts of short-term decisions.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources Consulting and Human Resources Business Partners to administer and investigate potential or actual labor disputes and employee representative body grievances, and implement remediation or dispute resolution with relevant business, Human Resources, Legal, Public Relations, Global Security, and Benefits partners in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, union contracts, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Partner with relevant internal parties, including the Workplace Investigation Team, Business and Regulatory Investigation, Labor Management Committee, Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs, and Global Employee Relations, on parallel investigations; document issues while protecting security and confidentiality of sensitive labor relations data; and advocate for security principles in disputes and grievances.
  • Manage, distribute, and oversee requests through relevant channels, including customer relationship management and queue-management systems, assess request severity, and determine the management approach for the supported business, region, or geography.
  • Co-create a local labor relations strategy with regional peers, the team, and local Human Resources leaders, incorporating security-first considerations and the needs of Microsoft's rapid innovation, hybrid work, and skilled, diverse workforce.
  • Collect insights on local market trends and external factors to inform proactive labor relations, and recommend improvements to the operating model for productive and positive labor relations.
  • Create a regional or market Labor Relations Community of Practice for Country Labor Relations Specialists to deliver the strategy and enable a listening system for identifying risks and priorities; build mentoring partnerships with local Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs and labor relations subject matter experts.
  • Coordinate local Human Resources and Product teams in consulting with relevant unions, works councils, or employee representatives on commercial or cultural matters.

  • A Master's degree in Business, Labor Relations, Human Resources, Law, or a related field and at least 8 years of experience in human resources operations, labor relations, or a related field, or a Bachelor's degree in Business, Labor Relations, Human Resources, or a related field and at least 12 years of experience in human resources operations, labor relations, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience resolving employee-related issues involving employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement or union contract, such as contract negotiations or mediation.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading and executing projects in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification or Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification.

LinkedIn ex-CEO Ryan Roslansky to leave Microsoft in 2026 amid executive departures

Ryan Roslansky, Microsoft's executive vice president and former LinkedIn CEO, will leave the company at the end of 2026. Roslansky, who joined LinkedIn in 2009 and became CEO in 2020, cited family ties to the San Francisco Bay Area as his reason for departing. He will remain as an adviser to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella through December. His exit follows a string of executive departures at Microsoft, including gaming chief Phil Spencer and Office executive Rajesh Jha. Roslansky moved into Microsoft 365 oversight earlier this year after Dan Shapero became LinkedIn's CEO. During Roslansky's six-year tenure leading LinkedIn, membership grew from 700 million to 1.3 billion users. LinkedIn posted 11% revenue growth for Microsoft's most recent fiscal year.

Elizabeth Warren demands answers as Amazon, Google, Meta and Microsoft claim $96B in AI tax breaks

Senator Elizabeth Warren is demanding answers from Amazon, Google, Meta, and Microsoft over $96 billion in lost federal revenue from AI-related tax breaks. Despite reporting massive revenues in Q2 2026, the tech giants saw significant tax reductions last year. Amazon paid $7.8 billion less in tax, Meta nearly $7 billion less, whilst Microsoft and Alphabet each qualified for roughly $19 billion in tax cuts. The companies are benefiting from provisions in Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act, including 100% bonus depreciation for AI data centres and expanded R&D tax credits. Corporate tax revenues have dropped 23% this year, largely due to these AI tax breaks. Warren and fellow lawmakers have sent letters to the companies' CEOs questioning the tax breaks and their lobbying efforts, arguing the costs have been imposed on American families through cuts to Social Security and other programmes.
